Zach Braff And Gabrielle Union Will Star In A Remake Of “Cheaper By The Dozen” For Disney Plus
For a company that prides itself on “Imagineering,” whatever the fuck that means, Disney sure seems to lack good old-fashioned imagination. According to Deadline, Disney+ is working on a “reimagining” of Cheaper by the Dozen, that old Steve Martin movie, which was already a remake of the 1950 film of the same name, which was an adaptation of a 1948 book of the same name. There’s a reason “reimagining” isn’t a real word, just saying. And they are really straining the bounds of credulity by casting Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union as the mom and pop of a “multiracial, blended family.” Look, I’ll buy a 1’ tall genocidal 50-year-old infant that can move shit with its mind, but Zach Braff pulling Gabrielle Union and putting a gang of babies up in her? Sirs/ma’ams, you have lost your minds.
TheCheaper by the Dozen is being written and produced by Kenya Barris and his Black-ish executive producer Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry. Deadline reports: Beige-ish Bunch
Zach Braff is attached to join Gabrielle Union in the forthcoming Cheaper by the Dozen reimagining from Black-ish creator/executive producer Kenya Barris. The film is being developed for Disney+ and is slated to drop on the streamer in 2022.
Written by Barris and Grown-Ish executive producer Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, the new version of the family comedy centers on a multiracial, blended family of 12, navigating a hectic home life while managing their family business. Braff is set to play the father. Gail Lerner will direct while Shawn Levy and Union will serve as executive producers.
Hats off to Kenya for resisting the urge to call this Cheap-ish by the Dozen-ish. A great feat of restraint I didn’t think he was capable of. And congrats to Zach for having something he can point to when people complain about him dating a much younger woman. Gabrielle, his soon-to-be TV wife, is actually 2 years older than him (she’s 48, he’s 45, his girlfriend Florence Pugh is 25 please don’t @him)!
