Dustin Diamond Thinks He Got Cancer from Staying In Moldy Motel Rooms

Oh wow. Maybe the most depressing headline ever to grace this site, and that is saying something. A couple of weeks ago Saved by the Bell’s Dustin Diamond was admitted to the hospital for pain all over his body. Doctors suspected cancer, and, after running a bunch of tests, his rep confirmed the bad news: Dustin was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell carcinoma. It’s a type of aggressive lung cancer, and stage 4 is obviously not good. But here’s the thing; small cell carcinoma is usually caused by smoking, but Dustin’s never been a smoker. He suspects it has something to do with all the seedy motels he’s stayed at over the years.

According to his rep, Screech has traveled all over the country for “work”, filming (checks IMDb) movies like College Fright Night and Porndogs: The Adventures of Sadie, touring comedy clubs, and appearing at meet n’ greets. TMZ says he was forced to stay in some “pretty questionable hotels and motels, because there were no other options.” Dustin thinks some of those places could have had mold or asbestos, and breathing that shit in could have caused the cancer.

Dustin has just finished his first round of chemo at a Florida hospital (run away from the asbestos, AWAY!), and will start doing physical therapy soon before his second round of treatment.

We’re told his doctors have not determined what caused his cancer, but as we reported … he does have a history of it in his family. His mother died of breast cancer.
