Allison Janney Says A Co-Star Asked Her To Sanitize Her Mouth Before A Kissing Scene

There are people out there, I’m sure, who would prepare for a kiss with Allison Janney by exhaling into a cupped hand to make sure they don’t have donkey ass breath, which might be following up with a text to their closest friends bragging, “Guess who’s about to kiss CJ from The West Wing?” So this story will surely dredge up feelings of shock and insult to those people. Allison Janney recently revealed that she once had a scene partner who boldly requested she de-germ her mouth by covering her lips in Neosporin before a kissing scene.

Allison told the story on Thursday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and stressed to Jimmy Kimmel that this happened before the COVID-19 pandemic. It came up after Allison talked about getting tested for COVID-19 between seven to eight times a week on set, depending on whether she had a kissing scene scheduled that day or not. But pre-pandemic, the only thing she had to worry about was what microscopic critters were living on her mouth. According to Allison, the unnamed kissing partner was a “germaphobe” that couldn’t bear to kiss her without a thin layer of bacterial protection, courtesy of Johnson & Johnson. via People:

“He was such a germaphobe, he would put Neosporin on his lips and ask me to put it on mine, too, before he would kiss me,” said Janney. After Jimmy Kimmel laughed and said, “That doesn’t do anything!”, Janney said, “I didn’t know [what it would do] but I took it very personally, though.”

“I thought, ‘What does he think I put in my mouth?’ I don’t know. It kind of unnerved me, but people are germaphobes.”

After Jimmy joked that her scene partner was Howie Mandel. Allison confirmed it was not Howie, and that she refused to name names. But we can tell that whoever it is probably should take an online microbiology class. Because Jimmy is right. Unless you’re eating the stuff, the inside of a mouth is still full of bacteria.

I don’t know if we’ll ever get to the bottom of this mystery, because Allison’s got about 1.6 billion credits on her IMDb page, so it could be anyone. But after it was announced that The Bold and The Beautiful are using mannequins in love scenes, the germaphobe actor definitely rang their agent and said, “It’s the part I was born to play, and the mouth I was born to kiss!”
