Ben Affleck Talks About The Racist And Sexist Comments That Jennifer Lopez Got While Dating Him

Although it’s been about nine decades since Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez starred as BENNIFER, Ben is now talking about some of what happened behind-the-scenes. Although their relationship lasted about two and a half minutes longer than the box office bomb Gigli (which I thought was the real reason they broke up in the first place), there were many factors that tore into their blessed union which led to their parting of ways. And one was the shitty comments that were made about JLo while they were together and those comments left a bad taste in Ben’s mouth for many years.

Though they ended their relationship in 2004 after two years, two movies and a failed engagement people still like to romanticize that time back in the early aughts when Jenny from the Block danced her way into Ben’s heart. But ultimately J.Lo would switch partners and shimmy into the Rebound Rhumba with fellow singer Marc Anthony while Ben snatched up Jennifer Garner to be his (l)awfully wedded wife. Even though Bennifer 1.0 pushed their relationship onto the pap stroll and he even starred in the music video for Jenny From The Block, JLo has said that all the public attention played a major role in the demise of their engagement.

In an interview during The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast (via People), Ben defended his ex and got really mad about what was said and written about her in the past:

“People were so fuck mean about her — sexist, racist. Ugly, vicious shit was written about her in ways that if you wrote it now you would literally be fired for saying those things you said,” Affleck said during the podcast. “Now it’s like, she’s lionized and respected for the work she did, where she came from, what she accomplished — as well she fucking should be! I would say you have a better shot, coming from the Bronx, of ending up as like [Justice Sonia] Sotomayor on the Supreme Court than you do of having Jennifer Lopez’s career and being who she is at 50 years old today.”

And as far as JLo commenting on Ben defending her, not sure if she’ll do that because she’s busy with other things, like releasing the Westworld-on-LSD video for her song In The Morning:

But back to Bennifer, if we ever need a reminder of those good old days we can always watch Jersey Girl. On second thought, let’s just remember them as they once were outside of their horrible movies.
