Open Post: Hosted By Paula Abdul Not Being Able To Name One Winner From The “American Idol” Reboot

American Idol debuted in 2002 and during the first few seasons, it delivered actual stars like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and the biggest star of them all, William Hung. While it had a solid few years, the show originally judged by Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, and Randy Jackson fizzled out. It cycled through a plethora of judges including Ellen Degeneres for some reason, and even though it kept eternal host Ryan Seacrest rolling in the money, it finally came to a close in 2016 after 14 years on the air on Fox… And was subsequently remade and brought back to ABC in 2018 to once again keep Ryan Seacrest in the money. OG judge and iconic mess Paula talked about the show on Andy Cohen‘s Watch What Happens Live! and she was perfectly PC, but when he asked her to name a reboot winner, she couldn’t. Skat Kat got her tongue!

Andy tried to stir some shit up and get some shady answers out of Paula, but he didn’t get much. First, Paula said that Ellen did a great job on American Idol and that she was ready to leave the show by that point. No shade there. (via Hollywood Life)

“I was ready to leave, so I had already made peace with that. I thought Ellen would be great. I really did. Her perspective was just as a fan, or a regular person in the audience watching, and I thought she did a good job.”

The only real shade came when Paula was asked to name just one of the winners of the three seasons of the rebooted American Idol. Paula was stumped! But in her defense, none of us would be able to name a winner, even the winners! But Paula’s a pro, so after she was stumped, she punted and complimented the current judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan instead:

“There was nothing like the original cast. It was such an incredible show and changed the trajectory of everyone’s life and careers and television. I get that. I just haven’t had time to catch up. But I love Katy, I love Luke and I love Lionel.”

She could have honestly said: “Umm, Taylor Wheaton,” and Andy would have just had to nod along because he doesn’t fucking know either! Or turn the question around on him, ask him to name any of the Real Housewives of DC. Guarantee he can’t!
