Meghan McCain Says She Had A Rough Time Returning To “The View” From Maternity Leave
I’m sure all of us would have been ok if producers of The View had filled Meghan McCain’s seat with Whoopi Goldberg’s Baby Yoda doll up there (full disclosure: I’d be interested in that dead-eyed puppet’s thoughts on policy). But that wasn’t going to happen, because Meghan’s leave from The View was just a temporary one. Meghan was on maternity leave after giving birth to her daughter, Liberty Sage. And after three months away, Meghan was set to come back on January 4th. You would think that Meghan was itching to return to her happy place (aka fighting with Joy Behar), but returning put a ton of stress on Meghan.
Megan said on The View that her original plan was to come back six weeks after giving birth, but that wasn’t happening, due to her body being wrecked after child birth.
Returning to @TheView, Meghan McCain calls for mandatory paid maternity leave: “We as conservatives have to come together and allow all women in this country, no matter where they’re from or their socioeconomic class, the capacity to have what I just had.” https://t.co/VRVdUHlzuw pic.twitter.com/0LRwJ7ebyB

I didn’t get better for Meghan. Meghan appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Monday night, and she talked about what it was like to come back to work after taking time off. On one of her first episodes back, she got into it with Joy. Joy said she did not miss Meghan one single ounce while Meghan was away on mat leave. That was followed a day later by Whoopi basically telling Meghan to pipe the fuck down during an interview with Senator-elect Raphael Warnock. I don’t know what’s worse: mastitis (aka feeling like your tits are filled with extra-strength nail polish remover), or getting back-to-back demolished by Joy and Whoopi. Don’t make Meghan choose, it all sucked. Not to mention what’s happening in America over the past week. via People magazine:
“It’s been such a rough reentry back into The View,” she said, adding, “I had a really hard birth…I had a really hard time getting back to work. I thought I’d be back by the election. So just like that process of getting back was a lot, and this past week back, with just the show the way it is and obviously everything going on in the country and the horrible, horrific attack on our Capitol – it’s just been a lot.”
But, she’s still happy to be back.
“I missed everyone. Even if some people didn’t miss me, I missed the show, we’re a family. All these women were at my dad’s funeral. We’ve been through a lot of shit together, and I missed being on the show. I hope that we can all be examples, myself included, of where the country should go forward. Because whether we like it or not, I’m not going anywhere on the show, Joy’s not going anywhere on the show – we all have to live an coexist with each other.”
Having a newborn baby is a trip that no one is truly ever prepared for, but Meghan is cocky and I’m sure she thought she had the whole give birth/back to work thing in the bag. And it’s really too bad that babies can’t communicate and understand like grown people do, otherwise Meghan’s life might be different. “Listen Mommy, I’m going to take a break from yelling at the top of my lungs for an hour straight. And with you doing the same thing at work, it’s just like, a lot for this house, you know?“
