Open Post: Hosted By The Alex Trebek Video Tribute That Opened His Final “Jeopardy!” Episode
The final Jeopardy! episode Alex Trebek filmed before his death aired last Friday. Sigh. The end of an era. Alex’s swan song ep opened with a video tribute montage set to Hugh Jackman singing “Once Before I Go”. It featured clips of the host goofing around, wearing wacky costumes, bringing his kids to set, dancing, then claiming, “I don’t dance”, hosting without pants (at the 0:39 mark, Mom!), sassing contestants, one child contestant sassing his ass right back, and footage of his trademark mustache. The whole thing gave me eye wetness.
Here’s the tribute:
It’s still undecided as to who will permanently replace Alex, but the first temporary guest host will be Jeopardy! champion/Bean Dad’s best friend, Ken Jennings. Katie Couric will follow. A bunch of fans want LeVar Burton to host (I’m down with this), and it’s rumored that George Stephanopoulos wants a shot as well.
Even though this Jeopardy! montage is sad, it’s important to note that Alex kept it tight for 37 years. And that head of hair! Right up until the end.
