Open Post: Hosted By The Class-Action Lawsuit Against King’s Hawaiian Rolls For Not Being Made In Hawaii

A Yonkers man is named as the chief plaintiff in a class-action federal lawsuit against the King’s Hawaiian company. King’s Hawaiian is getting sued because even though its packaging mentions Hilo, Hawaii, they’re actually made in Torrance, California. Unlike Hawaiian Punch, which is shipped out from Hawaii on the hour. No one tell this man that Mars bars aren’t actually made in Elon Musk‘s martian candy factory! He’ll riot!

The New York Post says one man, Robert Galinsky, has taken his gripe legal and a whole-ass lawyer is indulging him. Long Island attorney, Spencer Sheehan, has sued the King’s Hawaiian Holding Co, Inc. after filing in federal court in Manhattan. The class-action is basically mad that while the company talks about Hilo, Hawaii–where the product was originally made in the 1950s–they are currently made in Torrance. Spencer told the Post:

“King’s Hawaiian has been known as the most authentic purveyor of its eponymous Hawaiian rolls. Unfortunately, they’re labeling gives consumers the impression that it’s made in Hawaii. It’s not.”

While the lawsuit admits that King’s Hawaiian “essentially invented this category of food” and admits other companies have tried copying such a roll, the problem is that if they aren’t made in Hawaii they aren’t authentic and shouldn’t be charging as much:

“Defendant’s prominent placement of “Hilo, Hawaii,” on the front label — copuled with the other legitimate uses of the word “Hawaiian” — is deceptive and misleading to consumers who believe they are buying a product made in Hawaii,” the lawsuit said.

“Had plaintiff and class members known the truth, they would not have bought the product or would have paid less for them,” the suit said.

The lawsuit wants unspecified damages and also for the company to change its label. The people at King’s Hawaiian did not respond to a request for comment.

We’ll see what happens with this lawsuit, but the makers of Mountain Dew should watch out because Robert may sue them over their “dew” not being from mountains. Although, Mountain Dew does come from mountains, radioactive mountain ranges of Hell!
