Open Post: Hosted By Caipirinha, The Hero Dog Who Rescued A Senior Pup From Drowning

Because dogs are so much smarter and better than humans and we all need a daily reminder of this, here is a story from Argentina with a happy ending involving two best doggo friend-siblings named Caipirinha and Luna, their backyard pool, and a heroic rescue that puts all of our lazy asses to shame. According to The Dodo, Caipirinha, the young Shepherd pictured above, found her 14-year-old BFF, Luna, struggling in their backyard pool while their humans were out. The family’s outdoor camera captured the whole scene.

The Dodo says that one day, Luna was all wet when she came back inside the house, and so her human Julieta Firpo wondered what happened. Luna is a senior dog and can’t see very well, so Julieta knew that the chances of her going all Esther Williams by taking a graceful swim in the pool on her own were slim to none. And when Julieta looked at footage from the backyard security camera, she found out that Luna accidentally fell in and nearly drowned until her hero Caipirinha swooped in and pulled her out.

“We watched the video and couldn’t believe it,” Firpo told The Dodo. Seeing Luna in danger, Caipirinha worked diligently to help her — guiding the confused senior dog toward the shallow end of the pool, before pulling her to safety by her collar. Caipirinha had saved the day.

Now realizing the danger, Firpo plans to block off the pool so such an accident doesn’t happen again. But thanks to Caipirinha’s quick thinking and clear devotion to her friend’s well-being, Luna escaped that scary incident unharmed.

Julieta plans to safeguard the pool so this doesn’t happen again.

Here’s the video of Caipirinha and Luna starring in the only reboot of Baywatch we need:

And here’s Luna safely lounging on dry land while thinking, “I was just doing my water aerobics! You’re such a drama queen, Caipirinha!
