Mighty Men & Monster Maker!

It was 1979 when TOMY decided to make the butch version of the ultra-glamorous toy, Fashion Plates, which TOMY put out a year before. While Fashion Plates allowed you to create a stunning next-level fashions, Mighty Men & Monster Maker allowed you to create… well… mighty men and monsters.

Today, the nickname “Monster Maker” belongs to Pimp Mama Kris who has created a whole Koven of monsters, but in the late-70s, it belonged to TOMY’s Mighty Men & Monster Maker. Like Fashion Plates, MM & MM was a kit made up of 18 tiles that including 6 head tiles, 6 upper torso tiles, and 6 lower body tiles. GeekDad says that the tiles were double-sided so you had tons of options. For example: One tile had a vampire head on one side and a monster head on the other. There were also superhero options. So after you chose the head, upper torso, and lower body tiles you wanted to use, you slipped them into a plastic tray, put a piece of paper over them, and lowered the frame that kept them in place before sketching away. Here’s a commercial that shows Dracula, a mummy, and Frankenstein’s monster showing that shit in action:

I never had or played with an MM & MM because obviously I was too busy sketching out pure glamour while playing Fashion Plates, but I wish I had an MM & MM today. I mean, sketching out a Mighty Man is probably the only way I’ll get a man to stand me for more than a second!
