Lily James And Sebastian Stan Will Play Pamela Anderson And Tommy Lee In A Series For Hulu

I’m sure Gwyneth Paltrow is pleased to learn that a promising young unknown actor landed the role that will surely change his life. But for others, this casting news is likely causing a whole lot of people to wonder if Hulu is trolling us, or if someone at Hulu needs to check the prescription strength on their glasses. Deadline is reporting that Lily James and Sebastian Stan have been cast as one of the couples that defined early-90s messy marriages, Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee for a Hulu series about their relationship including the theft of their notorious nautical honeymoon sex tape.

Deadline says the eight-episode limited series is currently titled Pam & Tommy and will begin filming in the spring. Lily will obviously play Pam, Sebastian – who kind of has the eyes for it – will play Tommy. Seth Rogen, who is also producing, will play the sex tape thief. Pam & Tommy will be written by Rob Siegel, who wrote The Wrestler and The Founder. And it will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who directed I, Tonya. Ok perfect, they found someone who knows how to light over-bleached hair and frosted lipstick, excellent.

The story will follow Pam and Tommy’s romance, which saw them getting married to each other 96 hours after they met, then onto the sex tape they made on their honeymoon in 1995. The tape was shot on a boat and was meant to be private, but was allegedly stolen by a contractor, by accident, who was working on Pam and Tommy’s house. According to a story published several years ago by Rolling Stone, a contractor named Rand Gauthier was pissed that Tommy owed him $20,000 for work on his Malibu mansion, and when he returned to collect some tools, Tommy allegedly pointed a gun at him and told him to get off his property. Rand allegedly decided to get revenge by stealing a safe from the garage. The contents of which he assumed was a few firearms and some of Pam’s jewelry, but ended up including a VHS tape that turned out to be their homemade honeymoon porno. The tape made its way around the bootleg circuit, then eventually found a distributor, and went on to make $77 million in legitimate sales in 12 months.

It’s not known if Pam & Tommy will follow the story verbatim, or if they’ll take creative license with the tape theft part of things. The real Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee don’t have anything to do with this series, but Deadline does say they’re aware it’s happening. Maybe Hulu can toss a few pennies at Pam and Tommy for using their stolen sex tape story? At least it would mean they’d see some money from it. Pam and Tommy were married from 1995 to 1998.

But I can think of a few people who make more sense as Pam and Tommy (were Margot Robbie and Machine Gun Kelly, who has already played Tommy, busy?). But I guess a few hours worth of fake tattoos painted on by a skilled makeup artist and a clip-on nose ring can turn Sebastian Stan into a decent Tommy Lee. As for Lily James, well…she’s British. So I hope she’s been practicing her California-by-way-of-BC accent. To be fair, there’s really only one thing she needed to nail in her audition, and that’s the ability to balance a giant hat on her head.
