Kelly Clarkson Has Accused Her Estranged Husband, Brandon Blackstock, Of Defrauding Her Out Of Millions

Kelly Clarkson and her ex, whose name sounds like a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina background witch, Brandon Blackstock, are going through a messy divorce and it’s gotten much, much messier. They were fighting over custody of their children (6-year-old daughter River Rose and 4-year-old son Remington Alexander) with Brandon wanting to shuffle them back and forth between Los Angeles (where Kelly lives) and Montana (where he lives), but Kelly didn’t think that was a good arrangement for their kids. A judge agreed and gave Kelly primary custody with Brandon getting them every other weekend. And then Brandon filed papers asking for $436,000 a month in spousal AND child support (even though he’s only going to get the kids twice a month). But that wasn’t even the worst part of their money fight. How does that saying go? “If a Hollywood couple doesn’t fight over money during a divorce in the woods, does it make a sound?” Something like that.

OK! Magazine says that Kelly has filed documents accusing Brandon of stealing a shit ton of money from her for 13 years.

Brandon and his father Narvel Blackstock are both talent managers and run Starstruck Management, which managed Kelly’s career. Back in September, Starstruck sued Kelly for $1.4 million claiming she owed them commissions and also added that she will soon owe them $4 million more for money she made from The Voice and her daytime talk show. And now Kelly has hit back, claiming that Starstruck is the one who owes her money and lots of it. Kelly’s legal team has filed legal documents with the California Labor Commission saying Brandon defrauded her by overcharging her with insanely high fees. Kelly also argued that Brandon isn’t even legally allowed to operate as a talent agent because he’s not licensed. via OK!:

Clarkson [has] filed a Petition to Determine Controversy with the Labor Commissioner’s Office claiming that Starstruck and the Blackstocks had violated Section 1700 of the California Labor Code. That is also known as the Talent Agencies Act, a controversial California regulation that requires any individual who is acting as an agent in the state to be licensed. The difference being that a manager handles talent’s day-to-day operations while they are on the job while an agent is tasked with booking those jobs.

Agents are also required to provide a surety bond of $50,000, which Clarkson claims Starstruck failed to do while operating as an agent. They also failed to obtain her written approval to act as an agent, failed to work in a manner that served her best interests. What they did do, claims Clarkson, is demand “unconscionable fees” and give “false information,” make “false representations,” and conceal “material information from [Clarkson] concerning certain matters relating to [Starstruck’s] … violation of the Labor Code.”

Kelly’s team argues that “based on the wrongful acts and conduct of [Starstruck Management and the Blackstocks],” all agreements between them should be declared null and void. Kelly’s lawyer adds that she shouldn’t pay them a cent but that they should pay her back for the money that was overcharged to her.

Brandon’s team shot back, saying that Kelly is only doing this because of Starstruck’s lawsuit against her, via TMZ:

Bryan Freedman, lawyer for Starstruck, tells TMZ “The labor petition conveniently ignores the fact that Kelly had her own licensed talent agency CAA at all times. While Starstruck Management Group provided talent management services on her behalf, it did so at all times that CAA was her agency of record.”

He continues, “It is unfortunate that Kelly is again attempting to avoid paying commissions that are due and owing to Starstruck to try and achieve some perceived advantage in her ongoing custody and divorce proceedings.”

OK! says that a ruling on Starstruck’s case against Kelly will not be made until next year. So Kelly and Brandon are dealing with two messy situations: their divorce and this Starstruck disaster.

Welp, in life there are lots of things we look back on and realize we could have done things differently or regret. Kelly will never get swindled again, that’s for sure. It’s just unfortunate that Brandon ended up being a bigger regret than From Justin To Kelly.
