Netflix Says It Will NOT Add A Fiction Disclaimer To “The Crown”

Netflix has come to a decision about that fiction disclaimer Britain’s Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, wanted them to attach to their series The Crown. Variety says that while British cultural institutions don’t appreciate the dramatization of the Royal Family, they will have to deal with it. Netflix is going to show The Crown without a disclaimer.

The Crown is on its fourth season, but the newest season really got stuck up in the craw of some people. Even one of the stars of the series, Helena Bonham-Carter, suggested Netflix should warn people of the dramatization going on with the show. Some members of the Royal Family in particular are quite upset over the show turning them into “grotesque caricatures.” I think it’s hard to save the Royal Family’s reputation when THE QUEEN‘s favorite son is provably-connected to the leader of an underage sex ring. And upon reflection, Netflix has decided to not put a disclaimer on the show. A Netflix spokesperson gave this statement:

“We have always presented The Crown as a drama–and we have every confidence our members understand it’s a work of fiction that’s broadly based on historical events. As a result we have no plans–and see no need–to add a disclaimer.”

They also confirmed that Oliver did send them a personal letter asking about the disclaimer and they responded to him privately.

In my opinion, the only person who should be asking for a disclaimer to be added is Gillian Anderson who plays Margaret Thatcher. She should be demanding they ensure a warning tells us that wig is not her real hair and she would never do such a thing to herself, and that she is actually not an ice-cold demon expelled from the deepest part of Hell.
