Taylor Swift’s Fans Think She Might Be Engaged To Joe Alwyn

The Swifties are at it again! Taylor Swift’s favorite part-time hobby to drop hints and clues in her songs (her favorite full-time hobby is dragging Scooter Braun). And because of her enthusiasm for teasing, her fans have begun examining everything she does with a fine-toothed cat grooming comb. Everything Taylor does, posts, publishes, or sings about could contain a possible clue to some big reveal. Last year, some of Taylor’s fans thought that hidden within the song “Lover” was the secret reveal that she had gotten engaged to her boyfriend of more than three years, Joe Alwyn. That didn’t end up being true, but it hasn’t stopped the Swifties from speculating on her engagement status. Another day, another Taylor Swift song that might actually be an engagement reveal.

This time, fans think that Taylor has an engagement announcement planned for the release of her re-recording of the song, “Love Story.” As per the terms of her old contract, Taylor wasn’t allowed to re-record her masters until November 2020. She’s been re-recording the songs from her first six albums, after making numerous attempts to purchase her masters. Currently, the masters from Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation are owned by Shamrock Holdings, who purchased them from Scooter Braun, who obtained them last year when he purchased Big Machine Records (as part of the sale agreement to Shamrock Holdings, Scooter still collects a percentage of the profits of the masters).

Taylor teased a little bit of the new recording of “Love Story” in a new Match.com commercial. Some people on the internet think that “Love Story 2.0” will be the first re-recording that Taylor debuts, and some other people think that a subtle lyric change proves that she’s planning to really go over the top with that release. via Us Weekly:

A sneak peek of Swift’s reimagining of the 2008 hit was featured in Ryan Reynolds’ new Match ad. As many Swifties expressed their excitement for the unexpected drop, some fans noticed that one of the lyrics changed from “Baby, just say, ‘Yes’” to “Baby, just said, ‘Yes.’” This modification has led to questions about whether Swift and Alwyn are currently engaged.

I had a re-listen, and I can’t really tell if she’s saying “say” or “said,” so I need another clue. The Swifties, on the other hand, are in full-blown conspiracy mode at the moment, and don’t require so much proof:

Of course, none of this has been proven, and it’s all just fan guessing at this point. Especially that one fan, who seems to think Taylor will also be re-recording the music video to “Love Story.” And let’s face it, if Taylor is engaged, that’s where she’s going to sneak in a clue about whether or not she’s getting married. All her biggest, most attention-based reveals happen in her music videos. As if she’d pass up the opportunity to open on a tight shot of her left hand playing the chords to “Love Story” on her guitar, with a giant diamond ring blinding the viewer.
