Chanel Held A Fashion Show, And The Only Guest Invited Was Kristen Stewart

COVID-19 is tearing through just about every industry, from buffets to movie theaters to rodent-owned pizza joints. Something I legitimately forgot about was fashion shows, and maybe that’s because I’ve spent the past 9 months in the same pair of grey striped leggings. Designers had to get creative with their fashion week shows, like streaming them online. Chanel decided to lean really hard into the theme of social distancing, by showing their latest collection to one person and one person only. And that was long-time Chanel muse, Kristen Stewart.
According to The Cut, Chanel debuted their Métiers d’art collection at the Château de Chenonceau castle in France. A full lineup of models wearing a bunch of skirts and old lady lunch jackets stomped down the runway, all for the benefit of Kristen Stewart. via The Cut:
According to a statement from creative director Virginie Viard, “showing at the Château de Chenonceau was an obvious choice,” as it was designed and lived in by Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de’ Medici, two women who inspired Coco Chanel and have a deep place in the brand’s history.
There’s no explanation for why only Kristen was invited. Kristen has worked with Chanel for years, and she’s part of a big club that usually includes celebrities like Vanessa Paradis, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. Did Chanel put 100 famous names into a bowl and pick one at random, or maybe – and hear me out – it was a stunt to get attention! Which they didn’t need to do, because the show itself would have gotten more press than they could have imagined in their wildest dreams. As you can see from the video below, the look of this show involved a ton of shiny-looking leggings, puffy satin, and struggle-curled hair. That’s more than enough for me to email all my friends and warn them that the mid-to-late 2000s might really be back, and to brace themselves for the possibility of an American Apparel re-brand.

That fashion show seemed like Kristen Stewart’s dream situation. Plenty of empty corners to sulk around in, a bench all to herself, free to yawn or check her phone without judgment, and not a single chance that a secret Twilight fan will approach her and ask if there’s a chance she’ll get back together with Robert Pattinson.
