Chrissy Teigen Wrote An Essay About Her Pregnancy Loss, And Says She Doesn’t Care If You Hated Those Photos

About a month ago, the worst thing ever happened to Chrissy Teigen. She suffered a pregnancy loss. Baby Jack was her third child with John Legend, and little brother to Luna and Miles. Last night, after weeks of bed rest and social media silence, Chrissy published an essay about her experience, detailing exactly what went down. It’s an emotional read. My eyes did wet things.

Chrissy explains that she was diagnosed with partial placenta abruption and was losing a ton of blood. Despite bags and bags of transfusions, her body wasn’t providing enough fluids for Jack to survive. And if she waited any longer for doctors to induce labor, she may not have survived either. So, at just twenty weeks pregnant, Chrissy gave birth, and Jack died. Chrissy asked her mother and “a very hesitant” John to take pictures every step of the way, no matter how uncomfortable it was. She says he hated it, and it didn’t make sense to him at the time. These were the black and white images she posted alongside her pregnancy loss announcement. A lot of people on the Internet had the ‘pinions about this choice, but Chrissy says she doesn’t give a shit about what they think, via Medium:

I cannot express how little I care that you hate the photos. How little I care that it’s something you wouldn’t have done. I lived it, I chose to do it, and more than anything, these photos aren’t for anyone but the people who have lived this or are curious enough to wonder what something like this is like. These photos are only for the people who need them. The thoughts of others do not matter to me.

Chrissy explains that she “needed to know of this moment forever”, comparing it to her and John’s wedding and her tears of joy after delivering Luna and Miles. She adds: “And I absolutely knew I needed to share this story.”

Here are Chrissy’s Instagram and Twitter posts:

Chrissy says even though she hasn’t been posting, she’s still been logging on to her socials (of course, an addict can’t just go cold turkey). She thanked everyone, friends and strangers alike, for their kind messages. Some shared their own personal experiences, other shared books and poems, and Chrissy appreciated that many of them included the note, “no need to respond”. She ends the essay with:

Jack will always be loved, explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see. Thank you so much to every single person who has had us in their thoughts or gone as far as to send us your love and stories. We are so incredibly lucky.

With so, so, so much love,
Chrissy

My eyes! To quote Seinfeld, “What is this salty discharge?”
