MacKenzie, the OFFICIAL Most Heroic Dog in America! Lassie is SHOOK to the core.

MacKenzie the Chihuahua may weigh about as much as half of an Olsen (4 pounds, okay, a whole Olsen) but she’s filled with a zillion tons of pure potent HEROISM. And that’s a fact. Those who think that Chihuahuas are only heroes to the makers of Xanax since you need to pop at least two whenever a Chi spends approximately 84 hours barking their vocal cords off after hearing a leaf drop. But MacKenzie has been crowned the Most Heroic Dog in America for being a super surrogate mommy!

People says that MacKenzie, who was born in Hilton, New York, was in a bad way during her first year of life. MacKenzie has a cleft palate and she nearly was taken out after contracting aspiration pneumonia. She had to be fed through a feeding tube, but after she dropped some legendary Chihuahua rage on pneumonia and beat that bitch, she started working with The Mia Foundation, a New York non-profit that helps animals who are born with birth defects and cannot physically be with their mothers. American Humane said in a press release that MacKenzie becomes a nurse, mother, and trainer to a baby animal in need. So basically, her heart is true and she is a pal and a confidante. And it doesn’t matter how big the animal is or if they’re a cat, or a dog, or a sloth, Mia will cover them with motherly love. And now I really want to see Mia coo out a lullaby while cradling a pony.

“Her job is to provide love and care for baby rescue animals born with birth defects,” the American Humane shared in a release. “MacKenzie takes an interest in each baby from day one, no matter the species or size. She plays nurse and cleans, comforts, and cuddles them. She acts as their mother and teaches them how to socialize, play, and have good manners.”

Mia also visits school children to teach them to be open-minded about living things who are different than them.

As for being named the Most Heroic Dog in America, Mia beat out 407 other dogs at the 10th Annual American Humane Hero Dog Awards. The awards recognize the dog friends who are regular Florence Nightingales and have done everything from save lives to comfort the ill. The winner was chosen through public votes and through a panel of celebrity judges made up of Jamie Chung, Erik Estrada, Danielle Fishel, Daniel Henney, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Marcus Scribner, Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, and Ariel Winter.

The only thing my dog is interested in nursing is a Pupperoni, so I’m slow-clapping for MacKenzie’s heroics. And for her breaking down the stereotype of Chihuahuas being yappy little bitches who will bite your eyeball off if you so much as glance at them wrong. Although, since Chihuahuas got massive amounts of Not The One running through their veins, I’m sure she grows a little whenever one of her patients rudely falls asleep as she’s reading their ass a story.
