Prince Andrew Is Reportedly Plotting A Public Comeback

To quote L.L. Cool J, don’t call it a comeback! No, literally – I don’t think anyone should technically call this a comeback, because that would imply the existence of a person who wants Prince Andrew to come back. But still, The Sunday Times is reporting that Prince Andrew thinks he can triumphantly return to public life, regardless of his current reputation problems.

Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking partner, is currently waiting for her day in court to discuss the charges against her (scheduled for July 2021). It’s pretty clear that Prince Andrew will likely get dragged into it in some capacity. Recently Ghislaine’s 465-page deposition from 2016 was released, and it was pretty clear she was asked about Prince Andrew in one part, despite his name being blacked out. Andrew also has been alleged multiple times to have ties to Ghislaine through his friendship with Jeffrey. Andrew has also allegedly not been cooperative with the authorities who want to speak to him.

All that would lead you to believe that Andrew is Pruneface from Dick Tracy, what with all the aggressive nervous sweating he’s probably been doing. Well, he’s not. Apparently, everything is easy and breezy in Andrew’s world. After less than a year away from public royal life, sources say Andrew is confident he can finally go back to work, via The New York Post:

“The duke is spending time working out how he can serve his country and support the monarchy in the future,” a source told [The Times], saying he is “thinking about his future service and public role.”

“He feels he has support from the family, very much so, including all his siblings and his parents,” the source said. He reportedly feels he has the backing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

An anonymous senior royal aide confirmed the story that Andrew is trying to get back to work, and that source also says the Royal Family is on board. The only roadblocks might be Prince Charles and Prince William, who are concerned with the optics of it all.

“The royal family is supportive of him thinking about what life might be like after issues are resolved, but the palace is not currently planning any future rebranding of his role.” Another royal source told the paper that while the Queen has a “soft spot” for Andrew, the “bigger say” on his return would go to Prince Charles and Prince William, who are both protective of the royal brand.

“The toxicity of his reputation is that he is indelibly associated with Epstein, and he cannot shed that reputation.”

The first anonymous royal source says that lots of discussions have taken place, but that it’s “unlikely” he’ll return to the public in an official role. They add that his involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein/Ghislaine Maxwell situation, as well as his relationship with the FBI, would almost always overshadow any appearance or project.

I am not surprised at the audacity of Andrew to think he can stage a comeback. This is the man who thought he could convince us that he’s never met Virginia Giuffre, after all. What I am surprised at is that literally anyone would listen to his sloppy timeshare pitch on how he plans to go back to work. Is the Royal Family that desperate for representatives to show face at ribbon cuttings? Are the Cambridge Kids too busy playing National Treasure to fill in? Can The Queen not find a photogenic-ish third cousin once removed? Personally, I’d feel better about a cardboard cutout of a royal than an in-person Andrew. At least you know if you accidentally brush up against the cardboard, the worst thing it could do is give you a paper cut.
