If you’re like me, your wine cabinet (read: the kitchen cabinet where you keep all your boxes of wine) is fully stocked and you’ve had a gentle talk with your liver, letting it know that on November 3rd, shit could get even messier for it, depending on how the election goes. That’s how I prepared after I already dropped my ballot. But Belinda Varnado really, really prepared when she got ready to cast her ballot in Sugar Land, TX. Some early-voting lines are longer than this year has felt, so people have been waiting for hours. Belinda knew this and she came prepared because not even sweating her nips off is going to keep her from voting.
In a TikTok video that went viral last week, with help from Kamala Harris’ niece Meena Harris, Belinda laid down her checklist on how she’s going to get her jush on (copyright: Jasmine Masters) by waiting in line to vote:
Grown folks hair? CHECK!
Savage clothes? CHECK!
“Get Your Jush” fan? CHECK
Chair? CHECK
Snacks? CHECK
Belinda also should’ve mentioned those stunning sunglasses which do double duty, because they bring the glamour and keep the sun’s rays from punching her eyeballs. Because Belinda needs to make sure her eyesight is at the top of its game to vote. Here’s Belinda letting those hos know that she did not come to play. Since becoming the sweetheart of voting, Belinda has made the media rounds, talking to both TMZ and Don Lemon on CNN. Belinda said that she only waited for 90 minutes, which isn’t bad since the line was around the corner. Belinda made the video for her fellow American memaws and pepaws so that they don’t turn the fuck around when seeing early voting lines and that they make sure to bring a chair with them to rest their ole’ bones on. Because they shouldn’t let shit stop them, via ABC13:
“I want everybody to get out and vote, especially my seniors. I think just because the lines are long, they’re not going to be able to stand out there. And they’re not going to want to stand out there if they’re full of arthritis like me, so get your chair, get your snacks. Some of them might be diabetic, and I had an umbrella too, so when the sun shifted on one side, I shifted to the other side,” Varnado said.
I am kind of surprised that Belinda still waited 90 minutes. You would think that the magnificent sight of Queen Belinda lounging on her voting throne while keeping herself cool with her Get Your Jush fan would immediately make every single person in front of her let her cut in front of them. I guess in these times of hours-long lines, even a queen has got to wait.
