Taryn Manning Says She Turned Down “Dancing With The Stars,” But They Say It Was The Other Way Around

If I had to pick a Boomkat song (Taryn Manning’s musical side-project) to describe this situation, it might be “Left Side/Right Side,” followed by “Wastin’ My Time.” Because that’s exactly what is going on between Taryn Manning and the ABC primetime celebrity dance competition show, Dancing With The Stars. Both sides of this story are accusing each other of wasting the other’s time by begging and pleading to appear on the show. Taryn says that DWTS has been desperate for years to get her on. Meanwhile, DWTS says that she’s the one who has been trying to get on the show and that they have never offered her a spot.

Taryn has already feuded once with a TV show, but this might be the first time she’s battled it out with a show she has zero association with. Taryn’s fight with DWTS first started during a paid promo shoot for Gita, a robot that carries your things for you (2020 continuing to bring us headlines that feel like they were ripped straight from an episode of 30 Rock). Page Six says that Taryn claimed you’ll never see her on DWTS because she feels like it’s confirmation of being a has-been.

“I’ve been asked to be on many times. I have this weird phobia that [competing on the show] means you’re a has-been, and I never want to believe that’s the case. Maybe it’s my own stuff, but, yeah, I’m definitely a good dancer.”

But according to a rep for the show, Taryn is the one who begged to be on. DWTS makes it seem as though Taryn’s chances of getting on the show are as likely as Derek Hough’s chances of skipping an eyebrow waxing appointment, which is to say: NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. via Page Six:

“Taryn claims she’s been asked to join the cast ‘many times,’ however, we have never asked Taryn to be part of the show,” a rep for the series said. “Her representation attempted to pitch her to us a while back and we kindly passed. So her claim that she was asked to join DWTS once, never mind many times, is completely false.

Her thoughts that the contestants consist of has-beens seems to be her own projection onto talent that we have asked to cast.”

After DWTS released their statement about how they never, ever wanted her on the show, she posted what she claims is an email dating back to 2014, from someone who claimed to be casting for an upcoming season. She also posted what she claims is an email from last year, from another talent producer, who was allegedly inquiring about meeting with Taryn to possibly appear on the show. The email from 2014 looks a little suspicious, but the one from 2019 seems legit. It appears to have come from a talent producer named Deena Katz, who has worked on DWTS since 2005.

Taryn also explained in her post two more reasons for why she wanted nothing to do with DWTS. First, she accused them of being shady by picking celebrities who have trained in dance, even though they bill the show as starring celebrities who aren’t dancers. Second, because they put Carole Baskin on the show. Taryn didn’t like that, because she’s all about animal rights and being vegan.

Dancing With The Stars hasn’t responded yet to Taryn’s Instagram evidence. Meanwhile, I’m over here wondering if Taryn’s fight with DWTS is real or if she’s actually just method acting in preparation for her upcoming role as the ultimate Karen. Complaining this much and this loudly on social media about the quality of the talent on Dancing With The Stars seems like a real Karen thing to do.
