Open Post: Hosted By This House’s Halloween Decorations That Have People Calling 911

When I first read that people were calling 911 over a house’s Halloween decorations, I expected an X-rated front yard tableau of a kinky demon orgy. Lots of chains, spiked dildos, and blood-curdling screams, which would obviously have fuddy-duddy neighbors clutching their pearls and hiding their innocent children’s eyes. Alas, the Riverside, California home sparking all this controversy is actually a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed display that looks like a house fire. So people are calling 911 to report a “FIRE! FIRE! FIIIIIRE!”

Homeowners Carmen and Travis Long apparently do this crazy decoration shit every year and told reporters that firefighters have actually shown up to their home ready to battle the flames. Hmmm, someone likes luring buff firemen to their home, I see! Carmen explained, Initially they thought it was a real fire. They got out of the trucks, then they walked around, gave my husband a high five, and said, ‘Great job, it looks so good.'” Now whenever the couple turns the display on, they call the firefighters themselves to inform them that everything’s A-OK.

If you’re looking at the above picture, and thinking, “these people calling 911 stupid?”, the actual video footage from the news report captures how realistic the display actually looks. Like there’s smoke, sound effects, and everything:

The ABC news anchors in that clip are surprised that the fake fire is in California, a state that lost 4 million acres this year thanks to six giant, record-breaking wildfires. Carmen and Travis better be extra careful, cuz if a crockpot explodes or those wildfires return, those firefighters ain’t popping over any time soon! The couple who cried wolf over here…
