Gal Gadot Knows That Her Celebrity “Imagine” Video Didn’t “Transcend”
Gal Gadot kicked off the coronavirus quarantine by getting her celebrity friends together to do that very ill-received cover of John Lennon‘s Imagine. It was pretty much unanimously hated and now Gal has spoken about the decision to inflict that tone-deaf act of narcissism upon us, saying her intentions were pure but conceding the video didn’t “transcend.” I don’t know, when I saw it for the first time I briefly lost consciousness so maybe I was transcending?
Gal is on the cover of Vanity Fair’s November 2020 issue, and during the interview, she talked about that mess of a celebrity songfest and apologized for not getting her message across, but also sort of shared the blame with Wonder Woman 1984 co-star Kristen Wiig for the actual execution of the sing-along. She said, via Entertainment Weekly:
“I had nothing but good intentions and it came from the best place, and I just wanted to send light and love to the world… I started with a few friends, and then I spoke to Kristen [Wiig]. Kristen is like the mayor of Hollywood. Everyone loves her, and she brought a bunch of people to the game. But yeah, I started it, and I can only say that I meant to do something good and pure, and it didn’t transcend.”
So Kristen is the one responsible! No wonder she had to apologize to Jamie Dornan.
Oh well, at least Gal acknowledged the failure. And people will finally forget that Imagine bullshit once and for all after the first trailer for her Cleopatra movie comes out and the internet can instead focus its rage around that!
