Lenny Kravitz’s New Memoir Gets Into His Relationship With Lisa Bonet
Lenny Kravitz has a new memoir out, entitled Let Love Rule. Even if you’re not one for book reading, you should be excited, because this means more excuses to post pics of 56-year-old Lenny! “Thank you, Internet”, replied all our eyes, clits, and peens in unison.
In the book, Lenny gets into his relationship with ex-wife Lisa Bonet,. Apparently, way back in the eighties, Lenny saw a picture of Lisa on the cover of a TV Guide, and told a friend, “I’m gonna marry that girl.” I’m sure that friend was all, “Uh-huh, suuure you are, Leonard.”
Flash forward to a 21-year-old Lenny, who’s engaged to Ming See Lau, the daughter of a wealthy Hong Kong businessman. Everything was going swimmingly until Lenny met Lisa backstage at a New Edition concert (did I mention it was the eighties?). His first words to her were, “I like your hair.” He writes, “It was lame line, a stupid line, one of the worst lines in the history of bad lines.”
Obviously the engagement with Ming See Lau was not meant to last. Lenny and Lisa became close friends, and even though he claims nothing romantic happened during that time, Ming See Lau “knew that there wasn’t room in my life for both her and Lisa.” Their wedding was called off.
Then, things took a turn for the sexual, via Page Six:
Finally one evening they were in a recording studio alone and Bonet asked where the bathroom was. As Kravitz was showing her, she tripped over a cord and fell into his arms.
“In a moment, everything changed,” he recalls. “We started kissing … That night I moved into Lisa’s bedroom. Destiny had led us here. With every passing hour, our love blossomed. Premonition turned to prophecy. Prophecy turned to ecstasy.”
Lenny and Lisa got married in Vegas on Lisa’s 20th birthday in 1987. The next year Zoë Kravitz was born. Lenny spares no details about how his daughter was conceived on a deserted beach in the Bahamas:
“We didn’t need a thing. We didn’t need clothes. We bathed in the ocean. We made love.”
Well, of course, you don’t need clothes to bathe and make love in the ocean. If anything, clothes would hinder the experience.
Tragically, Lenny and Lisa’s love was not to be. They divorced in 1993. However, they remained good friends. Hell, Lenny’s even buddies with Lisa’s new husband Jason Momoa, which he got into last week in an interview with Men’s Health.
