Rick Moranis Was Physically Attacked In New York City

Rick Moranis gave all us undeserving souls a gift last month when he generously came out of retirement to participate in a commercial with Ryan Reynolds for Mint Mobile. I was under the impression that a largely unproblematic comedy legend who just wants to live his life in peace should be off-limits to general assholery or unprovoked punk bitch behavior, but I was wrong. It’s being reported that Rick Moranis was physically attacked while out walking yesterday morning. Before you start worrying too hard, please know: honey, he’s fine now.

CBS2 New York reports that the attack happened at 7:30 am yesterday near Central Park West and 70th Street. Listen, there’s never a reason to just pop off and attack someone, but doing it before everyone has fully woken up yet? That’s pretty low. The altercation was caught on a surveillance camera, and it shows 67-year-old Rick getting punched in the head and falling to the ground. Crime Stoppers has tweeted the video, which thankfully isn’t very clear or in-focus regarding the attack. Because I really didn’t want to see sweet gentle Seymour Krelborn sucker-punched today, or any day. But, there is a clear shot of his alleged attacker, so I’m sure that helps.

Police reported that after Rick’s altercation, he went to the hospital with head, back, and hip pain. He was well enough to walk to a local police precinct to report the incident. Rick’s management team gave a statement to CBS2 New York, saying that he’s, “fine, but grateful for everyone’s thoughts and well wishes.” The suspect walked away and so far, they haven’t been apprehended.

Rick didn’t know his attacker, so it’s assumed that the asshole just randomly attacked a stranger and it happened to be Rick. The incident took place outside or near Rick’s home, and his neighbors told CBS2 that Rick is a very nice guy, and they were shocked that he’d be targeted in any way. I’m not a detective, but of course, it was a random attack. Think of a reason for hitting Rick Moranis. I’m serious, do it right now. You can’t, right? The worst you can say about the man is that maybe his character in Gravedale High was perhaps a bit derivative. Even then, I feel like shit for suggesting such a thing. The man just doesn’t phone it in!
