The Mickey Mouse Talking Phone!

Hasbro started selling the Mickey Mouse Talking Phone sometime in the early 1970s, but they were around in the 1980s, so if you were a Child of the 80s™, you may have experienced the magic of pressing those big buttons to “talk” to the likes of Snow White and Donald Duck. The 80s truly were simpler times when you could spend hours talking to a pre-recorded voice of Mickey Mouse on the dirty talking phone you got as a hand-me-down from your older brother or sister.

The Mickey Mouse Talking Phone had six characters you could talk to: Mickey Mouse himself, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White, Goofy, and Jiminy Cricket. The way that shit worked is that you scrolled to the Disney character you wanted to hear from, picked up the phone, punched some numbers, and then got hit with a serious case of STARSTRUCK from listening to the pre-recorded voice of Donald Duck or whoever. And then your friend or sibling got their turn. I know, I pulled out a Lysol wipe just from thinking about all the crusty nasty kid germs on that phone.

You could tell how fucked-up (or how much of a creative genius) a kid was by how long they stayed on the phone after the Disney character spit out their lines. Here’s a commercial from the olden days for the Mickey Mouse Talking Phone:

Sure, hearing from Goofy probably made a kid’s life decade year month day hour minute, but Hasbro should’ve added that girl to the Mickey Mouse Talking Telephone roster. Because who wouldn’t to hear her say, “Come over for uh pahty,” over and over again.
