Open Post: Hosted By The Marionette Models Of The Moschino Show

The world looks different and will probably continue to do so for the next little while. But anybody wondering what was off about Moschino’s recent Spring-Summer 2021 show need look no further than the soulless eyes on the wooden figurines clomping down the aisle. No, I’m not talking about Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner––this year’s batch of walking wooden figures were none other than marionette puppets decked out in mini versions of Moschino looks. Puppets, inanimate objects, doll-size clothing…. the jokes write themselves.

To show off their newest collection, Moschino creative director, Jeremy Scott, enlisted the help of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop (what a missed opportunity to have Yoda and Miss Piggy be models) to replicate non-human models in an effort to adhere to public distancing rules. Puppets, dressed in scaled-down versions of Moschino’s new line of dresses, replaced actual models, which then sashayed down a runway. Speaking to CNN, Jeremy described the painstaking process of realizing his clothing designs AND his mini-fashion universe:

“Not only did all the clothes have to be scaled down, and all the accessories scaled down (to) the size of the marionettes, but the whole audience had to be not only created and dressed,” Scott said in a video interview with CNN Style.

“As much as I loved working with the marionettes and as proud as I am of this show,” he told CNN Style, “I do miss working with real models and that energy and the energy of having a real audience and everyone gathered together. And I hope very soon I can do that in person again.”

Below is the cute show, and as you can see, the marionette models were flanked by other puppets posing as fashion editors, directors––even an Anna Wintour lookalike that, coincidentally, happened to give off as much warmth and emotion as the real Anna.
