Sarah Paulson Talked About People Having Issues With Her And Holland Taylor’s 32 Year Age Gap
32 years. The number of years that Nutmeg, the oldest cat in the world, blessed us with his presence. The length of the First War of Scottish Independence. How long it’s been since the premiere of one of cinema’s finest farces, Big Business. Finally, 32 years is the age gap between partners Sarah Paulson, 45, and Holland Taylor, 77. These two have been dating since 2015, after Holland slid into Sarah’s DMs. Sarah discussed their high profile relationship for the October cover story of Harper’s Bazaar.

“To feel that I belong to anyone other than a person I would like to belong to, like Holland or my dog or my best friend or my sister … a bunch of strangers claiming me as their own feels a little confusing,” she tells writer Roxane Gay, who authored The New York Times best-selling collection of essays Bad Feminist. “Since I’m not an expert at figuring out how to move around it, I end up giving more than I want to sometimes.”
Sarah says she believes people are focused on the age gap because they don’t want to confront mortality. Fair. Death scary. But it’s also because of good old fashioned ageism:
“…our own ageist thinking and the idea that to be old is to cease to have any desire.” Though the general reception to their relationship has been positive, Paulson also warns, “Anybody says anything about any person I love in a way that is disrespectful or cruel and I want to cut a bitch.”
Ya hear that? Sarah will cut ya, Nurse Ratched-stylez. Although I’m not sure if Nurse Ratched resorts to violence on the new Netflix show, being that I recently swore off any television helmed by Ryan Murphy (apart from the upcoming Monica Lewinsky/Bill Clinton American Crime Story, duh).
Maybe Sarah should go out for coffee with 24-year-old Florence Pugh (who’s with 45-year-old Zach Braff). They could discuss the injustices they face over their May-December romances. While they’re at it, invite Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dennis Quaid, Sean Penn, and half of Hollywood’s male population. Too bad they can’t call in the big guns to give them all a lesson or two in age gap love: RIP Anna Nicole Smith, who trounced them all (even Quaid!) with a full 63 years between her and her loving husband of a full 14 months, billionaire J. Howard Marshall. Sigh. They just don’t make ’em like they used to.
