Dr. Fauci And JoJo Siwa Are Equally Influential According To The Time 100

There’s no greater honor (for a publicist) than landing a spot on the Time 100, Time Magazine’s publicist prom. Induction into the Time 100 comes with a fancy photo-shoot (for some) and a seemingly randomly assigned essay extolling the winner’s virtue. Ergo, Jimmy Kimmel was selected to write about this year’s cover boy for the Leaders category, Dr. Anthony Fauci when Dr. Phil would obviously have been a better choice. You know, Dr. to Dr. Sometimes it makes a little sense, like Marlon Brando Jr., Leonardo DiCaprio, honoring Indigenous activist Nemonte Nenquimo who has worked to protect rainforests in the Ecuadorian Amazon, even though she’s way too old to fuck at 33. But then you have Kim Kardashian West waxing poetic about JoJo Siwa and you think to yourself, is it too early to start drinking?

(It’s not, by the way.) The Time 100 is broken down into five categories, Pioneers, Artists, Leaders, Titans and Icons. Why not just pick Lindsay Lohan as the Time 1 since she is unrivaled in all five categories? I have no idea. They wasted time and resources and spread it out instead. The list is also without rank— you are either on it, like Selena Gomez, or you’re not, like Kanye West. Here’s Time explaining their selection process.

We’ve been doing the TIME 100 list of the world’s most influential people for nearly 20 years. But there has never been a year like this. A year of multiple crises, all over the world, all at once.

And so this year’s list looks far different than any of us could have predicted just six months ago. The TIME 100 has always been a mirror of the world and those who shape it. While you will certainly find people who wield traditional power on this year’s list—heads of state, CEOs, major entertainers—it also includes many extraordinary, lesser-known individuals who seized the moment to save lives, build a movement, lift the spirit, repair the world.

I mean, congratulations to the lesser-known individuals hive I guess. The LKIs on the list include “a record number of doctors, nurses and scientists” and “many activists fighting for equality.” Personally, I’m content just celebrating Michael B. Jordan’s protest ‘stache.

Here are the cover shots that Time put together for from the list (LKIs excluded), You can find the list in its entirety here.

I’m sorry Sir Elton John but “Like Prince” is a logical fallacy in any context but especially when discussing a lesser-known individual like The Weeknd.
