Nicole Young Says She Co-Owns The Trademark On Dr. Dre’s Name And Dr. Dre Accused Her Of Embezzlement

Sometimes when two people get married, one of the spouses will take the other’s name which can make things complicated if later that couple should split, especially if the split is acrimonious. What’s less common is when two people get married and one of the spouses co-trademarks the other’s name, which is what Nicole Young claims to be the case in her marriage to Dr. Dre aka Andre Young. According to Page Six, Nicole’s not about to forget about Dre because in addition to asking for $2 million a month in spousal support, she is suing him for “secretly” transferring valuable trademarks, including the name Dr. Dre “as well as his landmark album, ‘The Chronic,’” immediately after kicking her out of their home.

And as if a hastily torn up prenup wasn’t high drama enough for this divorce, according to TMZ, Dre is also accusing Nicole of embezzling funds from their primary business account. Brangelina hasn’t even managed to bring this level of petty into the proceedings meaning this may prove to be the third messiest celebrity divorce of the century. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s introduction of photographic fecal evidence will keep them at #2, but I’m holding the #1 slot for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Page Six reports:

Dr. Dre’s estranged wife, Nicole Young, is suing the Beats impresario in California court, claiming that she co-owns the trademark to his name — as well as his landmark album, “The Chronic.” She further alleges in court papers that Dre “secretly” transferred the valuable trademarks to a holding company after, she claims, he kicked her out of their home earlier this year.

In court documents, Nicole’s team alleges that Dre was “caught secretly transferring valuable trademarks he owned with his wife … to a newly created asset holding company that he created and controlled after he expelled his wife from their home, and before he threatened to file divorce.”

Damn, expelled from the house after 24 years. Sounds like Nicole might have fucked her bag all the way up! I’m eagerly awaiting the inevitable appearance of one or the other’s side piece. There’s got to more to this story than an illogically loaded dishwasher. Page Six says the trademarks “were filed during Andre’s years married to Nicole, which coincided with Andre’s years of rising success in the music industry” and are therefore “presumed to be community property pursuant to California Family Code Section 760.” Look, Nicole didn’t waste her youth supporting Dr. Dre all through Rap Medical school to come away empty-handed. Dre, however, counters that the trademarks are his alone. Hard to know who is the pettier party in this situation.

Nicole’s team wants the trademarks to be put in a trust, and she’s suing for damages and legal fees. She previously also asked a court for $5 million in legal fees to fight her divorce case — indicating it will be an epically costly case.

Meantime, Dre’s lawyers have previously alleged that Young has refused to turn over his belongings from the Malibu home where she’s staying — including his golf clubs, a motorcycle, and a registered handgun. She’s fired back in court papers that with his near $1 billion worth, he can afford replacements.

As for Dre’s claims that Nicole embezzled from their company, according to TMZ Nicole just went ahead and wrote herself a check for $353, 571.85. This is what we mean when we talk about getting Every. Last. Penny.

TMZ has obtained a letter that was fired off to Nicole Young by attorneys for Record One recording studio, which Dre and Larry Chatman founded in 2015. Record One is operated by an LLC. Nicole was a trustee and signatory on the LLC’s checking account.

The letter launches right into allegations of wrongdoing by Nicole — claiming she “decimated” the company’s bank account last month to the tune of $353,571.85.  Attorney Ed McPherson, who reps the LLC that operates Record One, attached the check Nicole wrote to herself.

The letter accuses Nicole of “blatant and unjustifiable criminal embezzlement of corporate funds,” as well as a breach of her fiduciary duties.

Dre’s lawyers have asked her to “return the cash they claim she jacked no later than a week from Tuesday,” with the presumed threat that otherwise they’ll be forced to get 50 Cent involved. Now, I was making a joke there but then I checked and, of course.

No need to get 50 involved because he has already involved himself.
