Jennifer Aniston Saved The 2020 Emmy Awards From Going Up In Flames, Literally

The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards happened last night and it was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel who performed in front of like, three camera operators and a producer. There were cardboard cutouts instead of humans in the audience. Even though that sounds like a late-night TV host’s idea of Hell on Earth, Jimmy still put in the effort for all three hours.

To lighten up this year’s bleak circumstances for the isolated ceremony, Jimmy brought out a few people to help present awards, like his good pal Jennifer Aniston, who helped save him from a trashcan fire. A fitting, if not accidental, metaphor for the year so far. She also popped up in a mini Friends reunion, which was surely a nice little distraction for those who can say it hasn’t been their day, their week, their month, or even their year.

Jennifer came out to present the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and they did a bit about sanitizing the envelope before announcing the winner. I’m not even sure COVID-19 can live on glossy paper envelopes, but better safe than quarantined. Jimmy lit the envelope on fire to really kill the COVID, and it was Jen’s job to pull the fire extinguisher to make sure they didn’t burn the Staples Center down. The envelope was extinguished, but not all the highly-flammable Lysol-soaked tissue paper crumpled up in the bottom of the wire basket. 2020 almost claimed another casualty (almost RIP to the Staples Center), but Part-Time Fire Marshal Jenny wasn’t about to let that happen on her watch.

I’m sure there’s at least one gossip writer this morning that is tempted to write something about those flames almost being as hot as the forever-burning passion between Jen and Brad Pitt. I personally want to know how Jennifer Aniston learned to work an extinguisher like that. My uncoordinated self would have blasted everything but that trash can fire, and meanwhile, there’s Jennifer Aniston barely breaking a sweat or shifting a beach wave out of place while destroying a fire hazard with 20lbs of pressurized CO2. That’s the Aveeno commercial right there.

Jen returned later in the show from the comfort of her home office, and she was joined by Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, aka the Monica and Phoebe to her Rachel. Ross, Joey, and Chandler were MIA, but Jason Bateman was there.

I’m sure there are people at home getting really nervous about seeing all of them get within sneezing distance of each other’s mouths. But come on, you can’t tell me that when we all went into coronavirus lock-down, Jennifer didn’t send out an emergency group text to the Cabo Crew, telling them all to get to her house ASAP to quarantine in luxury. They’re probably all bubble buddies, it’s cool. That, or they’re rich enough to afford the exclusive rich person 5-minute COVID test.

Some Friends fans are no doubt pouting that they couldn’t pull all the friends together for that bit, but remember – it’s the Emmys, not a Friends reunion (you have to pay HBO Max for that). Besides, there’s no way they could get the whole Friends crew in that bit considering the circumstances. They only had about a minute, and that’s not enough time to explain why Joey is wearing a piece of salami as a mask, or hear Ross whine about his contact dermatitis mask hives.
