The Rock And His Family Got Coronavirus

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his family may look strong in that picture, but apparently they weren’t powerful enough to fight off COVID-19. Yep, corona got The Rock! And his wife Lauren Hashian, and their two young daughters, Jasmine, 3, and Tiana, 2. They all tested positive for coronavirus a few weeks ago. The Rock announced the bad news in an 11-minute Instagram video.

Luckily, The Rock says he and his family are on the other side of the illness, and “we’re counting our blessings right now”. Jasmine and Tiana suffered minimal symptoms and recovered after a couple of days, but the virus wasn’t as easy on The Rock and Lauren.

Here’s the video:

The Rock said:

“I can you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family. And for me personally, too. And I’ve gone through some doozies in the past, I’ve gotten knocked about and got my ass kicked a little bit in the past with some challenges.

But testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times. And the reason why I feel like this is different is because my number one priority is always to protect my family, to protect my children, my loved ones.”

The Rock explained that even though he’s been disciplined since March, he caught corona from “close family friends” (who insist they were also following quarantine rules). He says that, from now on, he’s forcing anyone who comes over to his house to get tested. The Rock goes on to encourage his fans to take COVID-19 seriously, wear masks (which he says shouldn’t be a political issue), and get healthy to build up their immune systems.

The Rock and his family getting coronavirus is bad (wow, hot take), but I think this video is great. Especially when he brings the issue back to protecting his family. That one sentence will do more to convince red-blooded American manly men to see coronavirus as an actual threat than anything a politician or doctor says. “Well, shit! If The Rock says to wear a mask to protect my woman and babies, maybe I should!”

Of course, there’ll always be the reeeally dumb dudes, whose counterpoint will be, “But, duuuh, but if I wear mask, how will I smell what The Rock is cookin’?” And yes, I imagine all Americans who don’t wear masks as Moose from the Archie comics.
