On Sunday, Adele caused mass Chrissy Tiegen awards-show-face after attempting to honour the corona-cancelled Notting Hill Carnival Festival by wearing Bantu knots and a Jamaican flag bikini. Then she doubled down on the questionable decision-making and posted a picture of that shit to Instagram. Where people could see it. Reactions ranged from cries of cultural appropriation to support to mockery. Said mockery included comparison to Tom Hanks’ wannabe Jamaican son, Chet “Haze” Hanks.
Obviously Chet’s trying to capitalize on his moment by posting a message to Adele on Instagram. In the video, he jams out in his car to Set Fire to the Rain, before breaking into his famous white boy patois to say… I’m not sure, exactly. That he’s always been a fan of Adele’s, he loved the picture, the hairstyle, and to give him a call? Honestly, most of that I gleaned from body language.
Maybe you can do better. Here’s the video:
It’s really cute that Chet’s pretending to be in on the joke. Reminds me of when you get bullied at school, and your mom encourages you to “laugh WITH them”. Cut to me fake-cackling as Brittany and Kayla play catch over my head with my Dunkaroos, in a twisted game of Monkey in the Middle. “Ha ha, you guys are hilarious. Boy, am I hungry!”
