Britney Spears Doesn’t Want Her Father Jamie Spears As Her Sole Conservator

Earlier this month, Jamie Spears got around to addressing the #FreeBritney movement, the online uprising of Britney Spears fans who were demanding that Britney finally be released from her 12-year-long conservatorship. Jamie Spears used to have complete control over Britney’s life, from basic everyday decisions to her finances. About a year ago, Jamie relinquished some conservatorship control to Jodi Montgomery (Jamie was still allowed to exercise control over Britney’s estate). Jodi’s position was only supposed to be temporary, which is why everyone in Britney’s circle has been spending the summer discussing the future of her conservatorship. Everyone seems to have an opinion on whether to #FreeBritney or not. And now we know how Britney herself feels. Remember when Britney sang, “Gimme gimme more“? Britney now wants the court to give her (give her) dad less access to her money.

TMZ is reporting that Britney’s attorney filed court documents stating that Britney’s position at this time is: #FreeMe, specifically from Jamie Spears’ financial control. But it also sounds like Britney is enjoying the help that she’s been getting for the past year from Jodi. Her attorney has asked that Jodi’s temporary role in Britney’s conservatorship situation become a permanent thing.

In the docs, the lawyer says Britney “strongly prefers” keeping Jodi – who had been assigned as the temporary conservator over Britney’s person for nearly a year now. At this point, she says she wants to put her in that role permanently.

Her attorney has requested that the court grant her a “qualified corporate fiduciary” to manage her estate. That’s a fancy title that Jamie doesn’t have. Also, it kind of implies that Jamie doesn’t know what he’s doing with Britney’s money, which is something her fans have been saying for a while now. Suspicious fans have accused Jamie of shady things, like embezzling money from Brit. TMZ says it’s not clear whether Britney wants that corporate fiduciary to totally replace Jamie, or if she’d be open to the idea of having them work alongside Jamie. Possibly to make sure he’s not up to anything. And if the court goes ahead and grants Britney’s wish, then Jamie better say goodbye to any underhanded plans he might have had. Because it sounds like the corporate fiduciary would be a bank:

Sources with knowledge of the situation tell us conversations have been had about adding a corporate fiduciary – which we’re told would likely be a bank – but that the talks have included Jamie staying on as co-conservator of the estate.

The documents filed also state that Britney doesn’t want to perform at the moment, and that a major conservatorship overhaul is needed. The conservatorship has always operated on the premise that Britney is a full-time performer. But she stepped away from her Las Vegas residency last year, and ever since then, she’s been more than happy to put on free fashion shows from the comfort of her walk-in closet.

I’m glad Britney felt comfortable enough to have her attorney ask for a new money manager. I’m also glad Britney was wise enough to realize she probably shouldn’t handle the money stuff on her own. I don’t care how financially smart Britney may be, managing her own spending would be an impossible feat. “I bought ten off-shoulder peasant tops this month, 30 scrunchies, six black eyeliner pencils, carry the two, divided by five. Dang it, do I have enough in the budget for a new pair of white denim short shorts or not?!
