RuPaul’s Social Media Absence Might Be Due To Feeling “Overwhelmed” At The Current Situation

For more than a month now, if you have wanted to get your RuPaul fix, you’ve basically been stuck with his 0.6 second pre-taped video messages on Canada’s Drag Race, or throwing up the music video for “Peanut Butter” on YouTube. Because Ru has been notably absent from social media. Ru stayed quiet on social media about the Black Lives Matter movement and police brutality protests. No one really knew why Ru disappeared from social media and wiped everything clean. But sources have been talking to Page Six, and those sources say it’s because Ru didn’t want to say the wrong thing and get read to filth for it.

RuPaul’s Instagram account still exists, it’s just empty. But Ru’s Twitter account is just like his face and hair at the Season 12 Drag Race virtual finale: aka non-existent. One source tells Page Six that Ru wanted to “disengage” as the conversations around BLM grew louder and more “overwhelming.” The source (Michelle Visage?) told Page Six:

“The truth is things like Black Lives Matter is overwhelming for someone like Ru. He gets backlash for appearing to not…support the community and [he receives] a lot of negativity, so he disengages.”

That source is absolutely referring to the internet dragging Ru after he admitted to fracking on his Wyoming ranch. But it could also be a reference to the time Danielle Young, a Black journalist, questioned RuPaul backstage in the press room at the 2019 Emmys, over the lack of racial diversity and representation in the production staff of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Ru didn’t really like that question, and sort of dismissed Danielle.

So if Ru tried to get active on Twitter about BLM and police brutality, he may have been met with some doubt. Not to mention that Ru doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to pleasing the masses with his thoughts and opinions. However, another source who spoke to Page Six (L’il Poundcake?) said that Ru’s absence has nothing to do with how people might perceive Ru’s take on the protests or Black Lives Matter.

Or maybe, just maybe, Ru’s lips are keeping tighter than Valentina’s during a lip-sync, because Ru doesn’t want to get the Ellen DeGeneres social media treatment either. The first source who spoke to Page Six alleged that Ru is really only saying hello-hello-hello out of obligation whenever he enters the Werk Room.

“He should be called ‘Rude Paul.’ She hates drag queens and is extremely rude to them. You’re not allowed to talk to him unless told to. You can’t call him, ‘Hey gurl.’ No one can call him, ‘Mama Ru.’ None of that. He is not your friend. You cannot make small talk,” the first source said.

Hmmm….I wonder who that source is. Yvie Oddly? Pearl? Literally any of the dozens of drag queens who have spoken out against RuPaul? Maybe Ru will return to social media. And if Ru ends up saying something dumb, or getting called out hard, then maybe Ross Mathews or Carson Kressley can get to work on a social media hashtag campaign of solidarity called, “I Sissy That Walk With Ru.
