Almost exactly 14 months after she became the second Mrs. Star Lord, Katherine Schwarzenegger has given birth to the baby she made with Chris Pratt, and they’re officially parents to a little girl. And for those of you wondering if Chris’ favorite book was still The Bible, well – their birth announcement will answer that question. Because Little Baby Schwarzenegger-Pratt’s birth has already been commemorated with a weekend’s worth of quotes from a Desktop Page-A-Day Bible Calendar (which is to say, two days worth).
People reported the news this morning, saying that multiple sources told them that Katherine had recently given birth. This is 30-year-old Katherine’s first child, and 41-year-old Chris’ second child. He shares his almost 8-year-old son Jack with his ex-wife, Anna Faris. People doesn’t say what day Katherine gave birth, but they did say she spent the weekend at home, with her parents – Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger – coming to visit multiple times. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no one could visit in the hospital. But everyone is apparently doing great.
“Kat had a good pregnancy and she is hoping for a quick recovery. So far, so good,” the source told People. “She is going through all the first-time mom emotions. She is extremely happy, but a bit tired and overwhelmed. Chris keeps being amazing though. It’s comforting for Kat that he is already a dad and understands how it is to have a newborn.”
Katherine’s brother Patrick Schwarzenegger kind of let the news slip yesterday to Entertainment Tonight. Patrick was seen in Santa Barbara carrying a gift with a pink ribbon, and told photographers that everyone was “doing great,” and that he, “just got her a little gift.” Meaning, his new niece. Eh, Patrick is probably the best family member to leak the news. Nobody needs a cigar-smoking Arnold in a parking lot, delivering a confusing statement that ends with the assurance that becoming an Opa is like bench-pressing 500 pounds of love.
Chris and Katherine confirmed the news themselves with an Instagram post. Both Katherine and Chris posted the same picture to Instagram, featuring their hands all wrapped up with their new baby’s little tiny baby hand. And they also had the same thing to say about it, which is that they’re thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter, Lyla Maria Schwarzenegger Pratt.

Those verses are pretty typical. Although I’m not sure what I was expecting. My Bible knowledge might be a little rusty, but I don’t remember learning any verses about diaper blowouts or sleep deprivation in Sunday School.
Onto that name. Maria is a tribute to Katherine’s mother, Maria Shriver. Lyla is more of a mystery. Until Katherine dedicates an Instagram Live to explaining the name, I’m going to assume she’s a massive fan of Lyla Garrity from Friday Night Lights. I personally would have gone with Tyra, for bad girl Applebee’s waitress Tyra Collette, but that’s just me.
