Bella Hadid Instagrammed Herself Flipping Off Police Officers Who Weren’t Wearing Masks

Over the past few months, Bella Hadid has really been showing her range on social media, which is about 400% more range than she usually shows in a photoshoot (we love to see personal growth!). Bella has been actively posting anti-racism information on her Instagram page, COVID-19 response links, resources on how to donate to the NAACP, calling out possibly xenophobic censorship, and pictures of herself doing community outreach work for a food bank. I don’t know what inspired Bella’s social justice energy, but she’s doing it. And recently she added to her social justice resume by proving without a shadow of a doubt that she’s very firmly anti-Cops Who Don’t Wear Masks During a Pandemic.

Bella divides her time between Los Angeles and New York City, and she’s currently in New York City after quarantining for a bit at Yolanda Hadid’s farm in Pennsylvania. Bella tagged the NYPD in one of her Instagram stories that she posted yesterday. As you can see, Bella called them out by posing in front of several NYPD officers, who were hanging around in a group and not wearing masks. She also proved she’s just as much of a social media badass as her sister, by flipping the cops off with. Bella wrote:

“WEAR A MASK…u guys look goofy…hi @nypd masks are for all our safety, not just urs…”

Page Six, who was really not pleased with Bella’s little impromptu pro-mask photoshoot, suggested that the police officers appeared to be standing six feet apart. They also called Bella a “clout-seeking star,” and pointed out that everyone was outside. Mask guidelines state that masks should be worn inside, but that it’s not totally necessary to wear them outside unless you’re in a crowded place where social distancing is difficult.

The internet was somewhat divided on Bella’s middle finger. A peek at Twitter shows some people were supportive of her calling out those maskless cops. Others felt like Page Six and thought she was being disrespectful. I’m sure Bella is carefully considering all the feedback that’s being directed to her. I personally would like to know what Bella’s friends thought. Specifically, her friend Kendall Jenner. Kendall knows her way around pretty girl activism, but she’s also not exactly one for wearing masks in public. I imagine Kendall sent a text to Bella telling her that if she wants change within the police force, she needs to give the officers a Pepsi.
