White Sox Pitcher Michael Kopech Files For Divorce From “Riverdale’s” Vanessa Morgan Who Is Pregnant

July 28, 2020 / Posted by:

Michael Kopech is a sportsball boy who pitches for the Chicago White Sox. Apparently he’s considered one of Major League Baseball’s “future stars”. His claim to fame ’round these parts is his two-year-long relationship with Atlanta blow-up doll Brielle Biermann, the daughter of Kim Zolciak of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Michael and Brielle both appeared on Kim’s award-winning (Most Lip Fillers) docuseries, Don’t Be Tardy, until their break up in early 2018. 24-year-old Michael quickly moved on to Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan, the actress who called BULLSHIT on Riverdale’s treatment of Black characters, and the fact that she was paid less than her white co-stars.

In January, after a year-and-a-half of dating, these two got hitched in a “fairytale” wedding (Vanessa’s words, I would NEVER). Since then, she’s posted a few photos declaring her undying love for her new hubby. Then, three days ago, 27-year-old Vanessa revealed she’s pregnant and due in January. Here’s the Instagram announcement with pics of the gender reveal party (it’s a boy!) and her positive pregnancy tests from May 20:

Exciting news… I am overjoyed to be welcoming my baby boy into the world this January 💙. This little guy has already brought me so much happiness and a feeling of such a greater purpose. I cannot wait to meet you!! On a personal note, I have had the blessing of growing up in the public eye having started my acting career at age 6. While this has been incredible for me, I am very much looking forward to giving this little guy some room to grow up outside of the public eye, until he tells me otherwise 🙂. Lil one you were made with so much love & already exude a light so strong it warms my belly. Thank you God for this blessing ☺️ I’m just so happy & can’t wait to dedicate everyday to being the best mommy I can be ♥️ “I’ll love you forever I’ll like you for always as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be 🎶 “- if you know you know #preggers 🤰🏽 #quarantine🎁 👶🏼

But wait, where’s Michael? He’s not in the pics, and Vanessa doesn’t mention him in the caption. Has something gone horribly wrong? The answer is: YUP. Because yesterday The Chicago Tribune reported that Michael filed for divorce from Vanessa last month in his home state of Texas. The case is sealed from the public, and so far no hearing date has been set. On July 10, the White Sox announced that Michael wasn’t playing this season due to “personal reasons”. Um, maaaybe not a bad season to sit out.

Let’s break down this highly dramatic timeline:

  • January 4, Fairytale Wedding
  • May 20, Tests Positive For Pregnancy
  • June 19, Files For Divorce
  • July 25, Baby Announcement
  • July 27, Divorce Announcement

It’s fast, it’s tragic, it’s messy, it’s 2020.

A rep for Vanessa confirmed to People that Michael IS the father, so it doesn’t look like this is a Maury situation. So what happened, then? Too much one-on-one couple time in self-isolation? Was the prospect of fatherhood too much for Michael? Or maybe he went crawling back to his naturally stunning ex, who tuned up her lips and Botox the moment it was legally possible?

Poor Vanessa. Let’s reminisce about happier times before she deletes all of these pics off Instagram:

Yikes. A good reminder to be very careful when using the words “eternal”, “forever”, and “fairytale”. Especially when you’re dating a pro athlete.
