Open Post: Hosted By Kacey Musgraves Maybe Playing Vanessa In Disney’s Live-Action “The Little Mermaid”

It’s time for another casting update regarding Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, a film that feels like it’s been in the works basically since Ariel was nothing but a cluster of fish eggs. We’ve got Ariel (Chloe x Halle’s Halle Bailey), a Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King), Ursula, (Melissa McCarthy), Scuttle (Awkwafina), Sebastian (Daveed Diggs), and King Triton (Javier Bardem). And according to sources, Disney has reportedly offered the role of vindictive, schemer Vanessa to Kacey Musgraves.
For the uninitiated, “Vanessa” was the sexy distraction Ursula became when she realized that Ariel might actually be able to land Prince Eric without a voice. Ursula, disguised as a sexy vixen, swoops in and tricks Eric into marrying her. Vanessa is the original Catfish. Vanessa is a critical character, despite only appearing on screen for a only handful of minutes (several of which are shared with an animated boner). The Disney Insider says that Disney has held several Zoom meetings with Kacey for the role, but it’s not known if she’s accepted it.
There’s also a rumor that Kacey might be involved with the film, just not as a character. So we’ll kind of have to wait and see if Kacey is photographed boarding a direct flight to Pinewood Studios in England, where filming is set to start this summer. It was supposed to begin in March but then COVID-19 happened.
She sure looks like Vanessa, but Kacey isn’t really known for her acting, unless you count that time she acted like she had no idea she was going to win Album of the Year at the 2019 Grammys.
Remembering when Kacey Musgraves won the album of the fucking year. So happy for this baby girl. pic.twitter.com/dLtp2uBeWq

And while she might not be a Steal Your Man icon in real life, she certainly knows how to channel that energy. I just don’t know how Disney can pull this off properly. Kacey is very gorgeous, and the second she pops on screen to steal Eric, literally everyone – Ariel, Flounder, Scuttle, Sebastian, the eels, every mermaid, even Chef Louis – will all be like, “Yeah, no – I get it.” You can’t fight that Cher hair.
