Naya Rivera’s Body Has Possibly Been Recovered From Lake Piru (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The Ventura County Sheriff’s Dept. confirmed in today’s press that the body they found in Lake Piru is Naya Rivera.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Dept. announced that they have found a body in Lake Piru in Ventura County, CA, days after Naya Rivera went missing during a boat trip with her 4-year-old son Josey. They have not confirmed that the body they found is Naya’s and they plan to hold a press conference this afternoon. But of course TMZ has piped up and they claim that police sources told them that Naya was found this morning.

The Sheriff’s Dept. tweeted this today:

In case you don’t know the details of this tragedy, Naya and Josey rented a pontoon boat on Lake Piru last Wednesday afternoon. When Naya didn’t return the boat, the boat rental place staff went out looking for her. They found the boat with Josey sleeping on it and Naya was nowhere to be found. Josey told the police that his mom went swimming and never came back up. Josey was wearing a life vest but it looks like Naya was not because an adult-sized life vest was found on the boat, along with her purse. Naya’s SUV was also still in the parking lot.

The visibility in Lake Piru is an extra kind of shitty, so it was difficult for divers to search. They could barely see a foot in front of them so had to rely on touch. Police searched the shore for footprints and looked inside nearby cabins, but believed that Naya was in the water. They eventually brought in sonar equipment to scan the water.

And in even more sad news (as if that was possible with this story), today is the 7th anniversary of Cory Monteith’s death.

I’ll continue to update this post as more information comes.
