Naya Rivera Has Gone Missing On A Lake In Southern California, Her Son Was Found Alive In A Boat

The Ventura County Sheriff confirmed the beyond awful news that 33-year-old Naya Rivera, who played Santana in Glee, went missing on Lake Piru in Ventura County, CA on Wednesday during a boat ride with her 4-year-old son Josey Hollis Dorsey. A search-and-rescue team searched for her until it got dark and could not find her. And there’s a report that the Sheriff’s Dept. believe she has died. The search for Naya will pick up again in the morning.

The Los Angeles Times says that Naya rented a pontoon boat with Josey at around 1 in the afternoon. There’s conflicting stories on what happened next. The L.A. Times says that Naya and Josey went swimming and he got back on the boat, but she did not. TMZ says that Josey told deputies that while he was in the boat, his mother jumped into the water but never came back up. When Naya didn’t return the boat after its three-hour rental time was up, the staff went looking for the boat and found it on the north side of the lake. Josey was sleeping in the boat and Naya was nowhere to be found. Her purse, with her ID in it, was left on the boat. At around 4:40 pm, deputies arrived and the search for her started immediately.

Divers went into the water and a helicopter scanned the lake, which is pretty small, and were not able to find her. They called off the search because it got dark and said that they will start again as soon as the sun starts to come out.

Josey was wearing a life vest when deputies found him. Naya’s life vest was still on the boat.

Naya’s SUV was also found in the parking lot of the boat rental place.

TMZ says that Josey is okay health-wise and is with his family. Josey’s father is Ryan Dorsey. Naya and Ryan divorced in 2018.

Naya posted this picture of her and Josey on Tuesday. There’s really not that many words right now.
