Charlize Theron Is Heartbroken She Can’t Play Furiosa In The “Mad Max” Prequel

Last month, the director of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller, confirmed that Charlize Theron will not get to reprise her role as one-armed badass Furiosa in the upcoming prequel. Alas, the movie is set when the character is in her twenties, and while George initially considered technologically de-aging 44-year-old (I know, ancient) Charlize, he thought the effects in The Irishman were a little too “uncanny valley” for his liking. I still say Scorsese shoulda saved himself millions by simply casting Joey from The Circle as a young DeNiro. But hey, I ain’t the auteur.

Charlize doesn’t hold George’s decision against him, but she admits she’s heartbroken she won’t be playing the role again.

She says (via The Hollywood Reporter):

It’s a tough one to swallow. Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making Fury Road with him. He’s a master, and I wish him nothing but the best. Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character [Furiosa], and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner.

Sigh. If only actresses would start Benjamin Buttoning backward once they hit the dreaded 4-0. Instead, they hit the fillers, Botox, and lip injections, committing to a slow Animorphs-like descent into cat people.

Last we heard, Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, age 27, was being considered for the new Furiosa role, a casting choice I fully endorse. British-born Jodie has proved she’s basically a thespian chameleon. Also, she’s hot and blonde like Charlize. Perfecto!

Jodie better watch her back, though. A heartbroken Furiosa-type like Charlize doesn’t just give up. She’ll stalk, seduce, and suck the youth right outta poor Jodie. Huh. Now that’s the movie I’d actually wanna see. A hot sci-fi All About Eve starring those two. Make it happen, auteurs!
