The Co-Owner Of Kid Rock’s Nashville Bar Is Suing Local Officials Over COVID-19 Restrictions

Apparently unaware that when people say they’re “dying for a drink,” they very rarely mean it literally, Steve Smith, the co-owner of Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk & Steakhouse bar in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee, is joining a lawsuit against state and local officials over restrictions in place to help slow the spread of COVID19. Nashville is in the midst of a phase-3 reopening which allows bars to be open at 50% capacity (and 75% in dining areas) and allows live-music but no dance floors. It’s a pretty liberal set of rules considering Nashville’s alarming spike in COVID-19 cases. According to The Tennessean, Nashville saw 343 new cases in the past 24-hours alone. The lawsuit accuses local officials of “clear disparity” in its treatment of bars compared to “individuals participating in protests,” and of “not being guided by science, but by political expediency.” That’s as ironic as their bar not being called Kid Rock’s Tiny Dick Honking Cough & Deathtrap.

According to Consequence of Sound:

Kid Rock’s Nashville, Tennessee-based Big Ass Honky Tonk & Steakhouse has joined a lawsuit against state and local officials over COVID-19 restrictions. Earlier this month, the bar and restaurant temporarily had its beer license pulled after being found in violation of multiple stay-at-home orders.

According to The Tennessean, the newly filed lawsuit cites the “clear disparity in how government officials are treating restaurant and bars compared to the individuals participating in protests,” and accuses these officials of “not being guided by science, but by political expediency.” The lawsuit is seeking financial compensation for a loss of business income during the lockdown.

Here’s what Kid Rock’s Tiny Dick looked like before it had its beer license revoked.

Here’s what Steve had to say about the violation:

“The Nashville government is, like, communist. They’ve got us behind a Berlin Wall. We met with Mayor Cooper and the doctors weeks ago and explained how having bar service is safer than table service.”

Back in March, Smith justified the decision to stay open at the time by saying that an elderly customer at another one of his establishments “mentioned having lived through the polio epidemic and didn’t recall such extreme measures being handed down in history.”

With hard science like that at his fingertips, it’s easy to understand why Steve doesn’t trust the government. Earlier this week another one of Steve’s Downtown bars, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, had to close down for a deep cleaning after an undisclosed number of patrons or staff were diagnosed with Covid19. Steve’s official statement on the matter was extremely vague. via Fox17:

“There have been isolated cases of COVID at the downtown locations, including an individual that had not recently been on premise and tested positive while out of state. Since the beginning, we have followed CDC and Metro Health Department guidelines and are taking extra measures to protect employees and customers, including shutting down to re-sanitize before, during and after each shift, as well as before and after every customer experience. We will support any employee, financially that contracts COVID to help them during their recovery. We stand committed to the safety of all of our employees and customers.”

Here’s an example of those “extra measures” Steve was talking about.

Oh, the tragedy! Where will The Ballcap Boyz play if not at Kid Rock’s Tiny Dick?! As for Kid himself, he seems to be lying low. In his most recent social media post (on May 4th), he promoted a COVID-19 relief sweepstakes in partnership with Shipt, an online delivery service. And he posted this back in April.

It seems like Kid Rock and his business partner Steve aren’t exactly on the same page. What happened to the loud and proud rebel we all know and, well, know?  You’d think he’d have something to say about the matter given that his name and dick size are right there on the sign! What is he, some kind of communist now?
