Toward the end of 2019, the Earth was depleted of a major source of glamour, charisma, sparkle, and celestial insight when human estrella diamond Walter Mercado returned to his homeland of the galaxy. Walter probably read the stars then and the stars said, “Girl, get the fuck outta there, shit is about to get shittier!” When Walter Mercado’s otherworldly spirit left his gorgeous mortal coil, things went beyond downhill on this planet. Coincidence? I think not! But the universe has thrown us an uplifting gift in the form of a Netflix documentary on the rhinestone-encrusted Puerto Rican astrology wonder.

On July 8, Netflix will show you what it looks like when you look at a bright shining star under a microscope when it releases Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado, which is a tribute to the life of Latin household staple and Puerto Rican astrologer Walter Mercado. Mucho Mucho Amor covers Walter’s childhood, his rise to becoming a Spanish TV star, the legal fight against a production company for the use of his name and likeness, and his everlasting effects on pop culture. The documentary has new interviews from the magical prophet of love himself, as well as words of praise from celebrity fans like Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eugenio Derbez.

Cristina Costantini and Kareem Tabsch, the directors of Mucho Mucho Amor, talked to Entertainment Weekly about making the movie and being let into the inner sanctum of Walter Mercado. Cristina said this:

“Getting to know Walter Mercado while working onĀ Mucho Mucho Amor was one of the greatest privileges of our lives,” Costantini tells EW. “We grew up watching him, like every other Latino in the United States so when we first met him, there’s no doubt we were starstruck. By the end of production, we had worked with him on this for two years and we became part of his family. When he died at the end of 2019, Kareem and [producer] Alex [Fumero] were pallbearers at his funeral. I want the world to know he was really that full of love and that he was such a sweetheart, exactly as you’d imagine.”

Below is the full trailer. And the only way to watch Mucho Mucho Amor is to watch it with an abuelita who will hit you in the thighs with a chancleta if you even think about opening up your lips to say anything. While Walter Mercado’s most popular catchphrase is, “Sobre todo, mucho, mucho amor,” every abuelita’s catchphrase is, “Sobre todo, I need lots and lots of you shutting the fuck up while I watch my stories and Walter Mercado!
