Lili Reinhart Is Sorry For Using Her Sideboob To Bring Awareness To The Killing Of Breonna Taylor

One demand that has continued to grow in the wake of the police brutality protests and conversations around defunding law enforcement, is to see the police officers connected to Breonna Taylor’s killing be brought to justice. 26-year-old Breonna Taylor was killed on March 13th by officers of the Louisville Metro Police Department, in her own house, and the only thing even remotely justice-adjacent to come out of this situation is the passing of Breonna’s Law, which bans no-knock warrants.

The officers who shot and killed her have yet to be arrested, and that would be why a whole lot of people are shouting, “Justice for Breonna” on various social media platforms. Well, Lili Reinhart, like many celebrities, decided to join in and bring awareness to the situation. Except her attempt involved the questionable decision to flash some sideboob to get everyone’s attention, and she’s really sorry about that now.

Lili plays Betty on Riverdale, so she knows a thing or two about doing something cringey. This might explain why earlier this week, she posted a thirsty topless shot to Instagram with the added bonus of demanding justice for Breonna Taylor. The photo, which has since been deleted, accompanied the caption:

“Now that my sideboob has gotten your attention, Breonna Taylor’s murderers have not been arrested. Demand justice.”

It doesn’t take a Dilton Doiley to know that this isn’t the most respectful way to bring awareness. Which would be why Lili yanked the photo down. The Sun says many people replied to Lili’s attempt at activism by pointing out that Breonna Taylor’s death shouldn’t become a meme or a joke, especially since no one has done the same to George Floyd or Ahmaud Arbery. Even a quick scroll through your Instagram Stories feed will probably turn up at least one person decrying the meme-ification of Breyonna’s death. But apparently Lili didn’t get that memo. But she jumped on Twitter and explained that she only had good intentions.

Lili says it was never her intention to be insensitive, and that she had good intentions. But the main explanation I’m still waiting for is why she felt like she needed to combine her call to action with a shameless thirst trap. Because what specific audience is that targeting? I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the kind of person who needs to be lured in with a glimpse of titty from a CW star before they start caring about social justice might be a lost cause.
