Anne Hathaway Says Christopher Nolan Bans Chairs On Set
Important breaking news, you guys! Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman, who starred in Les Misérables together in 2012, jerked each other off interviewed each other for one of those Actors on Actors Variety videos, which clocked in at a totally non-shocking 67 MINUTES. Actors: They love to talk about themselves!
At one point the discussion turned to director Christopher Nolan, whom Anne and Hugh have both worked with (on The Prestige and The Dark Knight Rises respectively). Anne said Christopher is “inspiring”, and that he’s totally streamlined the movie-making process. Two of his on-set rules are no cellphones (ugh, fuck you Christopher, but fine), and NO CHAIRS. Um…excuse me? Chairs, beds, and couches are God’s greatest creations. Why ban them? Well, according to Anne, Christopher thinks if you’re sitting, you’re not working.
She says (via Variety):
“He doesn’t allow chairs, and his reasoning is, if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they’re sitting, they’re not working,” Hathaway said. “I mean, he has these incredible movies in terms of scope and ambition and technical prowess and emotion. It always arrives at the end under schedule and under budget. I think he’s onto something with the chair thing.”
Ugh, of course the movie star with the giant trailer is fine with the “no chair” rule.

And, on a more serious note, many accused Christopher of being ableist:

I’m shocked because I didn’t realize Christopher was actually a boss from one of my many customer service jobs. Nothing like being forced to stand for hours and hours on end because “it looks more professional.” Shout out to Judy, my old night manager at the drug store, who developed debilitating back pain and varicose veins from 30 years of that shit. Don’t worry, y’all, corporate finally folded and let her bring in her own floor mat!
