Rebel Wilson Says Studios Paid Her A Lot To Not Lose Weight

Hollywood producers making actresses stay skinny by making them eat nothing but distilled air and fat-free water IS a tale as old as time. Hell, when Mrs. Potts sang “tale as old as time” in Beauty and the Beast, that’s what she was really talking about. But Rebel Wilson says that the opposite happened to her and that studios practically gave her stacks of money wrapped in a cheese-filled deep-fried dough blanket and topped with a dollop of bacon cream. Because Rebel says she was told to stay overweight to keep working.
According to The Sun, after years of playing comic relief and/or overweight friend-type roles in movies like Bachelorette, the Pitch Perfect movies, and Bridesmaids, Rebel, who got famous for playing a character called Fat Amy, revealed that she made the decision to finally lose weight because being paid to stay big on-screen messed with her head.
“It’s not like I want to lose weight and get to around a certain number. It’s more than that, it’s about dealing mentally with why I was overeating and I had a job where I was paid a lot of money to be bigger, at times which kind of can mess with your head a bit.”
She doesn’t mention any names, or reference which film she was paid to “stay big” for, but Rebel has always been outspoken about her weight and doesn’t really give a shit if you like it or not (unless you actually call her out on it on Twitter). She’s even publicly stated that her American agency originally took her on because no one on their roster looked like her. A plus-sized, blond woman under 30 40? NO ONE?
Following a 2020 Worst Supporting Actress Razzie win for the slimy hairball abomination that was Cats (seriously, if the mental image of a mangy Deuteronomy with Dame Judi Dench’s face, licking itself doesn’t damage you, nothing will) Rebel decided to RECLAIM her mental health by slimming down with the help of a personal trainer.
“I turned 40 as well in March and so I thought, this is gonna be it. This is going to be the year for me to just concentrate on the health benefits.”
“So now I’m just trying to work on the mental side and the physical job and doing a lot of personal training and, and on the nutrition side like it’s, it’s cool I should probably write a book at some point about it because people seem to be interested.”
After winning her defamation lawsuit against tabloids, she now has money to keep this personal trainer on retainer until she’s down to a size negative ten––the size she’ll have to be before Hollywood even considers her for another leading role. Until then, Tub-O-Lard Tina and No Thigh Gap Nancy, it is! But if Rebel does feel like getting revenge on those who told her to stay big, she could always whisper their names into the ear of expert fat-shamer Jillian Michaels who will scream in their faces until they turn to dust for promoting non-skinny bodies.
