Prince Harry Might Sue The Sun For Allegedly Soliciting Stories From One Of His Employees

Meghan Markle has spent more than a year legally fighting one of the UK’s biggest tabloids, The Mail on Sunday. And now it looks like Prince Harry might be getting into his own messy legal tabloid battle. I won’t be surprised if this story appears on the front page of some British tabloid under the headline, “Just Call Them The Duke and Duchess of Sue-Sex!” (I thought I had too much respect for Sue Johansen to desecrate her name with such a corny joke, but here we are).

But as exciting as it would be if this story had anything to do with sex, it doesn’t. According to the website Byline Investigates, Prince Harry has allegedly threatened to sue Rupert Murdoch and The Sun for allegedly buying stories about Harry from – DRAMATIC PAUSE – the partner of one of Harry’s employees. The calls came from inside the house, literally.

Byline Investigates says that no legal steps have been taken as of right now, and that everything is still in the threatening phase. But as of right now, Harry has reportedly summoned his lawyers and is focusing his litigious attention on Rupert Murdoch, publisher News UK (who publishes The Sun), as well as Dan Wootton, the executive editor at The Sun. The Sun allegedly paid £4,000 for insider information about Harry. The Sun reportedly worked with Meghan’s former communications secretary, Christian Jones. After announcing that Harry and Meghan were stepping back as senior royals in January, Christian was relocated to Kensington Palace, where he works as a communications secretary for Prince William and Duchess Kate. Although why do I get the feeling I’m about to write “former” on that job title too? Just a hunch.

Christian’s partner is a freelance publicist named Callum Stephens. And Callum is friends with Dan Wootton. Byline Investigates writes that The Sun made two payments totaling £4,000 to Callum Stephens in relation to two stories published last summer about Harry and Meghan’s nannies and godparents. Like this story published in June about Harry and Meghan allegedly going through three nannies in six weeks.

Another alleged tip was made in connection to Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties. Byline Investigates says that Dan Wootton published a story about Harry and Meghan moving to Canada. The talk of Harry and Meghan moving out of the country eventually got so loud, that it allegedly prompted Harry to move their big “We quit!” announcement forward a bit, which surprised everyone in the Royal Family and made things messy with his Granny.

Both Dan Wootton and News UK are denying they did anything wrong or shady, and that they (Dan and News UK) informed BI that they’ll sue if BI continues to report on Harry’s alleged lawsuit threat. A legal expert tells BI that even if Christian Jones isn’t the alleged leak, it’s pretty clear that someone has been leaking information about Harry and Meghan to the press.

“Whatever the case and whether it does indeed involve [Christian] Jones, someone has been briefing The Sun about the Duke and Duchess Sussex’s private and family life, which is clearly a matter which requires serious investigation, not least to prevent the misidentification of the person responsible and quash social media speculation.”

It’s not known if Harry knew Meghan’s communications secretary was talking to people he shouldn’t have been. But I wonder if that’s something the Royal Family warned them about? Sophie, Countess of Wessex (aka Prince Edward’s wife), recently spoke to the UK’s Sunday Times (via People) about Meghan. According to Sophie, who was apparently a friend of Meghan, everyone tried so hard to make Meghan feel welcome. Uh, everyone?? Sophie, girl…

The royal mom of two was a close confidant of Meghan’s while she and Harry lived at Frogmore Cottage, which is just 10 miles from Sophie and Edward’s Bagshot Park home. “We all try to help any new member of the family,” Sophie said.

As Meghan and Harry focus on building a life in America with their son Archie, Sophie wishes them nothing but the best. “I just hope that they will be happy,” she said.

I wonder if Sophie gave Meghan any advice when she was invited to tea at Frogmore. Like suggesting to keep an eye out for anyone hired as a “communications secretary.” I’m not saying Christian was blabbing to Callum, but he was hired to talk. Sometimes you forget to leave work at work, you know?
