Lady Gaga Might Have Called Out Her Ex-Fiancé In A New Song

Today Lady Gaga released her new album, Chromatica, which I always have to remind myself is not a cheap color-changing lipstick thrown in free with the purchase of $100 worth of Haus Labs cosmetics. As expected, Gaga fans are breaking down each song, lyric by lyric, searching for subtle messages planted by Gaga herself. And the good news for the rest of us is that they might have managed to dig up some gossipy evidence regarding Gaga’s relationship with her former fiancé Christian Carino.

E! News says that fans online broke down the lyrics to track number 6 titled “Fun Tonight.” We don’t know for sure if Lady Gaga is swiping at her ex, because she doesn’t name him by name. She only drops a few hints, and sadly, none of those hints are of the obvious nature. Like singing, “Christ, did you ever Care about me?” while an aggressive digital beat pounds “No no no” in the background. This is all just speculation, but considering Christian Carino is her most current serious ex, paired with the fact she’s moved on to the love of her life, it’s probably safe to assume it’s about Christian. The lyrics in question are as follows:

You love the paparazzi, love the fame
Even though you know it causes me pain
I feel like I’m in a prison hell
Stick my hands through the steel bars and yell
What happens now? I’m not OK
And if I scream, you walk away

Basically, Lady Gaga is accusing an anonymous person in her life of being a fame whore. Again, we don’t know if this is about Christian for sure. But her fans sure seem to think so:

Later in the chorus, she gives us more to work with, singing:

Yeah, I can see it in your face
You don’t think I’ve pulled my weight

Christian is a talent agent, so he knows a thing or two about how much work a person needs to put in to be successful. And here’s Lady Gaga implying that someone might have been giving her unsolicited career advice. Bold, considering his only real job requirement as Gaga’s fiancé was to choose if he wanted to sit on her right or her left in the limo. There’s also this little quote from a source when they called off their engagement in February 2019.

“It always seemed Christian was more into the relationship than Gaga was.”

Hmmm. So what I’m getting from this is that a person who may or may not be Christian really enjoyed being a very famous pop star’s fiancé. Not to mention how she implies he loved the fame and cameras, in contrast to herself, who…hates them? Lady Gaga? Not liking fame or photographers? I guess this song takes place in an alternate universe. Actually, now that I think of it, “Fun Tonight” is clearly an experimental allegory that explores Lady Gaga’s relationship with the scientist responsible for her current cotton candy cyborg persona. Maybe the only thing this song is proof of is that Lady Gaga really is the creative reality-bending artist she thinks she is.

You can listen to the whole song here.
