Jaime King And Kyle Newman’s Divorce Now Includes Allegations Of Assault And Drug Abuse

May 26, 2020 / Posted by:

A little over a week after Jaime King filed for divorce from her estranged husband Kyle Newman, the messiness has escalated to a new level. Both Jaime and Kyle have decided to aggressively throw down in public, much like Jaime’s character Heather Vandergeld did on the dance floor of a club in the seminal 2004 hit film White Chicks. Normally the mere mention of White Chicks would easily be the lowest point of a post, but not here. It’s the bar to which everything else will fall below.

When Jaime filed for divorce, she also obtained a temporary restraining order against Kyle, whom she was married to for nearly 13 years. She also tried to get sole custody of their two sons, 6-year-old James Knight and 4-year-old Leo Thames (she didn’t get that – they have to share). Kyle denied being the type of husband that a wife would need a restraining order against, and accused Jaime of abandoning their sons in Pennsylvania (where they’re quarantining with Kyle). He also gave the vague implication that she needs “help.

People magazine got their hands on Jaime’s domestic violence prevention petition. According to Jaime, her marriage has been in rough shape for nearly six years. She accuses Kyle of isolating her from professional contacts, employers, and friends. Jaime also claims that Kyle flew to Calgary, Canada in February (where she was shooting a movie) and verbally harassed her in the lunchroom in front of cast and crew.

She also claims that Kyle once showed up at her friend’s house, screaming at her, and then chased her down with his car. Jaime claims Kyle has repeatedly berated her and told her she’s a shit mom. On that note, Jaime has also accused Kyle of withholding their sons and is refusing to return them to her in Los Angeles. Jaime says she currently lives, “in fear.

“I have suffered the most confusing trauma-filled experiences involving emotional manipulation and gaslighting caused by Respondent [Kyle]. I am afraid of, and feel anxious and sick to my stomach at every encounter with Respondent.”

As for the drug abuse allegations, in Jaime’s filing, she accuses Kyle of staging a fake intervention in January and tricking her into going to rehab. Kyle allegedly told Jaime’s family and friends that she was struggling with addiction and needed help. Jaime says she went to rehab and was released a few days later after tests showed she had no drugs in her system.

This was Jaime’s second trip to rehab. Before Jaime King was an actress, she was James King the teenage fashion model who was dating the photographer that popularized the term heroin chic. She started doing heroin when she moved to New York City at 14, and finally quit at 19 when she entered a rehab facility.

Now for Kyle’s side, he responded to Jaime’s claims by filing an ex parte request last Friday (essentially, a request for his own protective order). According to Kyle, Jaime is a chronic opiate and alcohol user who is not capable of caring for their sons and refuses real treatment. He claims that Jaime used drugs while pregnant with their younger son Leo, and that they discovered Leo – then a 20-week-old fetus – was addicted to drugs in his mother’s womb. During that same appointment, they discovered Leo had a heart defect. Kyle claims Jaime has driven under the influence with the children in the car, and he alleges that she once left Leo with his nanny during a doctor’s appointment so she could run to the liquor store. The nanny had to track down Jaime after the appointment, where she was still shopping for booze.

Kyle also accuses a drunk or high Jaime of improperly buckling Leo into his car seat, not closing the vehicle door, and speeding off. She was flagged down by a frantic nanny and a pedestrian, who saw Leo hanging out of the vehicle.

In response to the accusations that Kyle is a violent monster, he denies ever getting abusive with Jaime, saying he would “never lay a hand on her” and that he was always acting as the peacekeeper in their marriage. He says he’s now letting it all out in an attempt to protect his boys. Kyle also accuses Jaime of cheating on him while filming in Canada.

Jaime rep has responded to Kyle’s accusations, because the option to keep this shit private for the sake of their kids walked out a long time ago. via People:

“This is another vicious, failed attempt of Kyle to continue his abuse of Jaime and manipulate the court system. Today Kyle was denied all requests for emergency orders and the judge granted Jaime shared legal custody of their two children. The temporary domestic violence restraining order remains in place to protect Jaime.”

Now we wait for Kyle’s inevitable response, which I’m sure will be just as thoughtful and respectful to their children’s privacy.

This whole situation is a mess, and only the people involved know what the hell is really going on. It’s very off-brand for Jaime, who starred in one of my favorite(ly bad) Hallmark holiday movies, The Mistletoe Promise. In it, Jaime’s character hates Christmas because she’s going through a crappy divorce. Then a handsome bland lawyer swoops in, and she falls in love, and she likes Christmas again. I’m not saying she needs a handsome lawyer to fall in love with. She just needs a good one, and hopefully sooner than December.
