Kyle Newman Responds To Jaime King’s Decision To Get A Restraining Order Against Him

Usually when a famous person’s marriage has bit the dust, you can expect either a reasonable amount of civility or a full-blown mess in which both parties fight tooth and nail. And then there’s Jaime King’s split from her director husband of nearly 13 years, Kyle Newman, which has gotten dark fast. Jaime filed for divorce from Kyle a few days ago, at which time she also filed for a, “domestic violence prevention petition,” aka a restraining order. Jaime was granted a temporary protective order that will be enforced until a hearing on June 8th. Kyle has something to say about all of that.

41-year-old Jaime and 44-year-old Kyle started dating in 2005 after meeting on the set of his film, Fanboys. They got married in 2007, and they have two kids together: 6-year-old James Knight and 4-year-old Leo Thames (whose godmother is Taylor Swift). Jaime also filed an emergency child custody and visitation motion, but that request was “denied without prejudice.” So basically, Kyle can still see the kids, but Us Weekly says that he cannot be within 100 yards of Jaime at any time.

Jaime’s very specific protection requests made it sound like Kyle is the kind of monster created in a Lifetime TV movie factory. But Kyle’s rep denies this to TMZ, accusing Jaime of lying. He also claims he’s the only one who has been taking care of their sons while in COVID-19 lockdown.

“Kyle was deeply saddened by Jaime’s attempt to obtain court orders based solely on false claims without providing him any opportunity to respond. As a result, he was extremely pleased that the judge nevertheless permitted their children to remain in his care.

As Kyle continues to solo parent, as he has done throughout this pandemic, he remains entirely focused on putting the children’s stability and welfare first. Kyle wants nothing but the best for his whole family and hopes that Jaime can find the peace and help she needs.”

I don’t know if I personally would have ended on a bold implication that Jaime is mentally unwell in some capacity. I mean, yes – she did date Kid Rock. But surely that kind of questionable decision making can’t still be held against her in 2020. And to be fair, Jaime has sort of gone through it recently. Last year, Jaime finally got her stalker put away after he attacked the windshield of her car while she and her older son were inside.

If Kyle was hoping to get the last word in, he thought wrong. A source close to Jaime spoke to People shortly after Kyle released his public statement. That source claims Jaime really wants to avoid making this current situation with her estranged husband any more dramatic than it has to be, and she side-eyed Kyle for dragging their children into it.

“Jaime was granted her request for a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Kyle from being near her or contacting her and is hopeful for a private and peaceful resolution without further court proceedings, which would be best for their children,” says the King source. “Jaime strongly believes that their children’s lives should not be discussed in the press.”

Jaime hasn’t said anything publicly, because as that source said, she wants to deal with this privately. But she did post a video of a poem titled, “Everything Is Going To Be Alright” to both her Instagram and Twitter earlier today. She also got out for a little quarantine walk yesterday.

And, she might have alluded to Kyle’s possible alleged abuse on social media a few weeks ago on Mother’s Day, when she promised to provide the “safest space” for her sons. People points out that Kyle didn’t mention Jaime on social media on Mother’s Day, and has only been posting pictures of himself with his boys.

It’s probably going to get messier and I guess the only bright side here is that Jaime is friends with Taylor Swift. And if there’s anyone you’d want on your side during a divorce, it’s definitely the person who has enough money and power to arrange a daily zero-contact at-home quarantine-safe wine, cake, and carbs drop-off.
